While this is supposedly the best hotel in Lijiang, which has insufficient 5-star hotels, I’m giving my rating to it as a 5-star hotel (ie higher standards required). Location of the hotel was good, adjacent to the old town. ||We are an extended family of 9, with the elderly and kids. ||Check-in:|Requested adjacent rooms at booking which were not available. Arrived in the early evening, check in was fast and courteous. Luggage was delivered to the rooms without incident.||Grounds:|The unequal cobblestone paths between the “villa rooms” may be quaint but dangerous at night as they were very dimly/insufficiently lit. We had to use the torch functions of our phones to see where we were going or would easily have tripped.||Rooms:|We were given 5 rooms, all on the ground floor. There is an outer door leading to a small outdoor path then to the actual room door. Again this outdoor area was poorly lit, and the outside door in fact had a raised doorway followed immediately by a step down, which was not lit. I in fact did trip and almost fell. This is hazardous. (See photo)||Inside the room, which despite being decent sized, had nowhere to put 2 suitcases. There is a small space in the bathroom under the hangars, enough for a single medium suitcase, but the space is right under the hangars which means I cannot comfortable access my suitcase and hang clothes at the same time.||The room itself is full of useless display wooden Chests, without a single drawer or other wardrobe space.||The toilet seat itself is too small for the toilet. The countertop has 2 sharp edges, again hazardous in a bathroom.||No F&B outlets or other amenities in the hotel. |The toilet seat itself is too shall...
Read moreOverall, the value for money at Hotel Indigo falls far short of what Banyan Tree offers. The reception service and customer handling at Indigo were noticeably lacking. Both the check-in and check-out processes were confusing, with poor communication regarding deposit policies and refund procedures.
In contrast, Banyan Tree acknowledged that I had booked during peak season rates and graciously offered me a complimentary upgrade to a villa with a beautiful mountain view. It was a thoughtful gesture that reflected their commitment to guest satisfaction.
On the other hand, when I asked the reception at Hotel Indigo if a reasonable upgrade was possible—given that I was staying during the low season when rooms are typically more available and affordable—my request was flatly rejected without any consideration.
More concerning, one day after checking out of Hotel Indigo on May 10th, my credit card information was compromised. The unauthorized transaction was fortunately detected and blocked by my credit card company, but the card had to be cancelled and reissued to prevent further misuse.
This incident has caused significant inconvenience. Since I prepaid a deposit through Trip.com and was told the refund process would take 10 to 15 days, I was advised to delay reissuing my credit card until the refund is complete. As a result, this has disrupted my ability to use e-wallet services and manage my expenses while traveling.
To clarify, the only two locations where I used this credit card were Banyan Tree and Hotel Indigo. While I cannot confirm the source of the data breach, this situation is deeply concerning and warrants...
Read moreThat was a great experience. It was hard to choose between Intercontinental and Indigo. I personally prefer Indigo because of our experience in Japan and of the attention to detail. The prices were the same at both hotels and you can use the amenities of both, which is great. The breakfast at Intercontinental is better, the bacon in Indigo is Chinese style and it’s not a buffet breakfast. Need to order from the menu. I liked the unique story of Indigo about the Tea horse road. Intercontinental has a larger area, but both hotels are beautiful. The staff at Intercontinental speaks better English. The staff at both hotels were helpful and attentive. We got an upgrade in Indigo to a Mountain View room but only because first we got a wall view and I asked for an upgrade. Indigo is quiet and peaceful, but very close to Intercontinental. The rooms are huge and amazing. In the end, choose the hotel based on the room style you prefer. All the other stuff can be shared. Thank you for a nice stay in Lijiang. The location is convenient and quiet. We went to Hyatt and Pullman for dinner, but they were far from the Lijiang old town and it was difficult to find transportation, it took us 50 minutes to get didi, the hotels are just okay compare to Intercontinental and Indigo. I recommend staying at Intercontinental or Indigo for a satisfying...
