My wife and I enjoyed a fabulous 24 day private China Encounters Tour with Wendy Wu tours in June and July 2018. This trip included several days in delightful Yunnan Province. ||||Wendy Wu chose the Wangfu Hotel for our 2 night stay in Lijiang. This was a most delightful experience. ||||The Hotel has simple and graceful architecture which compliments many similar buildings in Lijiang Old Town. What makes this hotel so unique is that it is in the heart of the Old Town itself. Cars cannot enter the Old Town. Cars need to be parked in a car park outside of the Old Town and our luggage was transported by a porter using a hand driven cart from the car park outside the Old Town to the Hotel itself.||||The exterior of the hotel was indeed a WOW factor. It was very imposing indeed. Walking to our room along ornate corridors we passed beautifully landscaped Chinese style gardens. ||||Our bedroom was modest but comfortable and clean. The facilities were not over the top but adequate for our needs as was the bathroom which included a shower over a plunge bath . ||||The reception area was always kept busy, given the large number of guests checking in and out at various times throughout the day. However, the reception staff members were always very friendly and helpful to their guests. ||||A nice feature was the Les Petites Écuries Yunnan Gastronomic Restaurant where we enjoyed a most pleasant western style Dinner on the first night and breakfasts on both mornings. For the evening meal we enjoyed as a shared meal Beef Balls Forest ( home made meat balls ,Yunnan flavoured mashed potatos, and Lijiang baby carrots) , Potato Platter ( Yunnan street food, potato balls, potato fries and potato cakes) and Wangfu Stir Fried Pork – a most delicious meal indeed. The atmosphere in this French Restaurant providing a delicate fusion of French and Chinese cuisine was pleasant and the wait staff were very efficient and friendly.||||We thoroughly enjoyed our two days enjoying the magnificence of the Lijiang Old Town, wandering along narrow streets and witnessing a well-preserved old city of ethnic minorities with brilliant culture, fabulous shops and enterprising eating houses. The old, original village is built around the concept of a network of canals intended to provide water to each and every household. We really enjoyed touring these canals of the Old Town during our visit. ||||To be able to stay in such a charming hotel right in the heart of the Old town was a privilege. ||||We greatly enjoyed the experience of our stay in this hotel and...
Read moreThis charming hotel is located inside the historic old town. The rambling two-storey building covers an entire city block and contains many interior open-air courtyards. The Chinese characters for its name can be read as prince’s mansion. Notwithstanding its name, the hotel is a modern hotel. The front desk staff are very welcoming and eager to help guests with sightseeing questions. The breakfast buffet is very Chinese. Be sure to check out the omelettes made to order in a little side room.||To get to the Lijiang Wangfu Hotel from the Airport Bus Terminal you will probably want to take a taxi, but the Lijiang Wangfu Hotel is located in a pedestrian-only zone. If you tell the taxi driver to take you to the Lijiang Wangfu Hotel, the driver will probably refuse because the driver knows that taxis are not allowed in the Old Town. To work around this problem, tell the driver instead to take you to the Bangheng Hotel (near the South Gate to the Old Town) and then either ask him to telephone the Wangfu Hotel at 5189666 to get them to pick you up, or you can simply walk about 400 metres or 440 yards along the narrow street leading north from the Bangheng Hotel. There is a slight jog to the left and then right again about half way there. The Lijiang Wangfu Hotel will be on your left as you emerge into a...
Read moreThis was the hotel we were most looking forward to staying at in China but probably the most disappointing for three main reasons:|The bed: the bed was so hard we both woke up hurting in the morning. It wasn’t until we left the hotel after 3 nights that I found a bruise on my side which can only have been caused by the bed|The noise: it’s never a good sign when you check into the hotel and they have provided earplugs. After reading the hotel information it seemed that these were because of the hotel being made of wood and the noise potentially caused by the guests moving around. However as our room was right next the the cleaners are it was the noise they made which caused the problem. We’d been travelling all day and wanted to get some rest in the afternoon. Also there were some very noisy guests who decided to have a party in the courtyard right outside our room|Finally general tiredness - the hotel is in need of a good update and refurb - paint is peaking off, the beds badly need replacing and our floor boards were warping up causing a...
