Compared to other international hotel chains, this hotel is really not too bad. It has decent size rooms, comfortable bed, well equipped amenities and free WiFi. The exterior, furnitures and fittings are a little dated, but everything is in working condition. TV channels are quite limited but you should not be expected to spend too much time in the room considering the entertainment options the city has to offer.||Front desk staff are professional and efficient. From personal experiences, the entire process of checking in and out was a breeze. Knowing abit of Mandarin is especially helpful considering the limited English proficiency among most staff. ||The housekeeping team are a friendly lot, most greet the guest with a friendly smile when they see you at the corridor. They also does a decent job in ensuring the room is clean and topped up with the basic essentials. ||The Star Cafe offers a good mix of Western and Chinese choices for breakfast, and they start service as early as 6.30am. The favorite has to be the fresh dumplings soup, made on the spot on ordering. The main let down is that they do not vary the food choices a lot and after a couple of days, you could have sampled all the different dishes.||Location of the hotel is a big plus. Just behind it is a large interconnecting mall, where you literally shop till you drop as there is a whole lot of shops offering both international and local brands of fashion. If ever you get hungry, there is also plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from. Just a stone throw away is another mall that specializes in electronics stuff and gadgets, all at very unreal prices. ||The icing on this cake is that the hotel has a subway station near by which means that you can easily connect to all parts of Shenzhen (including the airport) both quickly and at very reasonable price.||All in all, this is a decent hotel which is centrally located that provides one with a comfortable stay for a couple of nights. It is like what they advertised; nothing more,...
Read moreIn general the hotel was ok and clean, however there were several minor issues that made the hotel less than ideal for a US traveler: 1. the only outlet that worked with a 3-prong (US-style) plug was located in the closet. 2. The mini-fridge was not plugged in & turned on prior to my arrival. 3. The hotel employees spoke little-to-no English. 4. There were people (presumably employees) banging around and vacuuming the hallway late at night ~10:30pm. |Also there were more impactful issues: 1. the Wifi was slow with spotty connectivity. 2. Major plumbing issues - the drain under the sink leaked consistently, and the shower leaked a lot of water all over the bathroom floor. I had to use all the towels and both bathrobes to contain the water. First I thought the shower drain must be plugged so I alerted the front desk using a translation app on my phone and they left me a note later that it was fixed. But then the next time I used the shower, the water still built up rapidly and leaked all over the floor so I had to shower very quickly to avoid another flood. I think the shower floor was not sloped toward the drain so the water built up and went over the threshold onto the floor instead of moving...
Read moreThe hotel is situated in a convenient location surrounded by good amenities and access to public transport. However, the property is aged and is badly in need of renovation and upgrades. The air-conditioner in my room, in particular, was not functioning at all. I left a message with the reception for the housekeeping to fix it whilst I was on my way out but she conveniently forgot about my request. Upon my return, I was patient to wait for the relevant repair personnel to come by but he was not able to resolve the problem. In the meantime, I discovered there were other problems. The toilet bowl and the air ventilator in the bathroom were also not functioning as well.In the end, they have to offer to change my room. Frankly, the air-conditioner in the "new" was not great either, but it was still better than that in the first room. Overall, I rate my stay as average as I am willing to give them some benefit of doubt because of the high volume of guests arriving...
