Unbeatable Location but in Desperate Need of RenovationThe Shenzhen Huaqiang Plaza Hotel offers a mixed bag of experiences. While it has one major advantage that overshadows its shortcomings, there are several areas where improvements are desperately needed.Pros:Location: The hotel is situated in the best location any visitor to Shenzhen could hope for. Huaqiangbei Metro Station is right at its doorstep, and the area is vibrant, filled with shops, restaurants, and everything a traveller might need. It’s truly the hotel’s standout feature.Extra Refreshments: One of the hotel’s more unique and appreciated offerings is the complimentary tea and cake in the early afternoon and a substantial snack selection in the late evening. These extras add a touch of hospitality that we enjoyed.Elevator Views: While the elevator system is far from efficient, the outside views from the elevators are refreshing and a pleasant distraction during the long waits.Cons:Tired and Rundown: The hotel shows its age in every corner. From worn-out fixtures to outdated furnishings, it’s clear that the property is long overdue for refurbishment. Even basic amenities like WiFi were unreliable to the point where we gave up trying to use it.Elevator Issues: The limited number of elevators is a significant drawback, especially as the hotel starts on the 23rd floor. Waiting for an elevator is a frustrating experience as they are often full, going the wrong direction, or repeatedly stopping at multiple floors.Bathroom Amenities: The bathroom setup is another area where the hotel falls short. Only solid soap bars are provided—an outdated choice when most modern hotels offer liquid soap or other amenities. This detail highlights how the hotel has neglected to update its offerings.Overall Experience:Despite its shortcomings, the unbeatable location of the Shenzhen Huaqiang Plaza Hotel is enough to bring me back. The convenience of being in the heart of Shenzhen’s bustling Huaqiangbei district outweighs the frustrations, though I sincerely hope the management considers renovating the property soon. With some upgrades, this hotel could easily become a top choice...
Read moreVery lucky to have spent 7 nights here. The staff were friendly and always tried their best to deal with my queries. Location is the best. The metro is right outside the hotel. Line 2 goes right through most of the key places I wanted to visit as a tourist or allowed easy connection to other lines. There is an underground shopping area in the metro station that was handy for food. Lots of little restaurants to try here. The Huaqiang Bei area has a lively vibe and always felt safe to walk around at night. Plenty of shops and street food to explore. I was in a twin room which was large and spacious. In the bathroom, I liked the design of the sliding door which either exposed the shower or the toilet (note that the walls separating the room and bathroom is dark glass and can be slightly see-through from the entrance hallway). The city view from the room was excellent and beautiful at night. The hotel was quiet except for some slight traffic noise outside in the early evening. The turndown service was great and very consistent. Some reviewers noted difficulty finding the entrance to the hotel. I asked the hotel to provide me with the address in Chinese prior to arrival, which I showed the taxi driver (here it is: 深圳华强广场酒店 广东省深圳市福田区华强北路1019号). Taxi's are a relatively cheap way to travel in China, it cost me only 90 RMB from Shekou ferry port (150 RMB on the way back during rush hour). I would advise that you go into the Starbucks entrance, the lifts are on the left. Check-in on level 23. I arrived at around 11am and luckily my room was ready. Another set of lifts go to the rooms. You need a keycard to access these, which made it feel safe travelling as a single woman. Thank you I really enjoyed my stay. I would stay again if...
Read moreI had a truly disappointing experience at the Shenzhen Huaqiang Plaza Hotel. To start, the carpet was filthy and far from meeting the standards advertised on Trip.com. I have photos that clearly show the dirt and stains. It was evident that the room had not been cleaned properly. The bed was even worse — it reeked of the previous guest. It was disgusting to discover that the mattress, sheets, and pillows had not been replaced. This level of hygiene is unacceptable and leaves a terrible impression. To make matters worse, the water pressure in the bathroom was extremely weak, making it impossible to enjoy a hot shower after a long, exhausting day. This basic amenity was clearly not up to par. While the hotel staff were professional and accommodating, unfortunately, their efforts could not make up for the terrible state of the room. A clean environment is fundamental to any hotel experience, and this was a major failure. This was a revolting experience. My schedule is very busy, and I do not have the time or patience to deal with such poor standards. There are plenty of other hotels in the area, and I am confident that even the lowest-rated ones would offer cleaner rooms and better facilities than what I encountered at the Shenzhen Huaqiang...
