Fanlou — Restaurant in Shenzhen

Very popular among Hongkongers, especially YouTubers and TikTokers, this restaurant attracts a lot of people. One thing is certain: if you go there at 11:30 AM, you will have at least a 30-minute wait before you can get a table. 😅 However, if you go after 3 PM, there will be space but, unlike in Hong Kong, there are no special prices after 2 PM. 😒 For your information, I arrived at 1:47 PM and got a seat at 2:15 PM. My first dish was served at 2:36 PM.

As for the dim sum, I didn’t find anything special. They are neither better nor worse than those made in Hong Kong. 🤔

During lunchtime, the restaurant is very noisy. There are too many children screaming and running around. The restaurant becomes peaceful after 3 PM. So, if you don’t like noise, avoid this time slot. 😎

Traveling from Hong Kong just to eat there requires planning something else to do afterward to make the trip worthwhile, as it is not worth it just for the food.

An old and well established dimsum restaurant. One has to come early so that your wait is limited. We reached the restaurant at about 9.30am on a Saturday. There was no waiting queue but restaurant was full. Essentially, this means we were next in line. Within a span of 15mins, tje waiting room was full with waiting tables numbered up to 100. By the time we finished our meal, it was 350+. This means a wait time that will run into hours! We made it to our table within a 20mins wait which was good by this standard.

Food was good. Dimsum were large and fresh. Har gau and siew mai had large fresh prawns. However, some of the dishes had a bland taste. Suspect it is due to the Sai Kwan flavour which is on the bland side.

Good yummy tasting all day long dim sum. Came here on a Tuesday night and there were plenty of tables available. You have to scan the menu via WeChat and yes, it would be difficult if you do not have the app. I saw a table of westerners who were given a paper menu with pictures but everything was still in Chinese so you have to rely on pictures. The size of the dim sum is quite big. Plus also portion is generous. Because we wanted to try as much as possible, we ordered 10 dim sum for the 2 of us. The server very kindly informed us that we had ordered too much. Food arrived to the table within 10 minutes. The chives dumplings, Siew mai, porridge, lava custard bun and cheong fun was good.
