Just stayed here over the last weekend. I stayed in a 3-room female dorm. Overall, the room was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Room is air-conditioned, there's also a window but no fan.||||There are lockers downstairs at the lobby which are within sight of the front desk (need to pay a 20yuan deposit and some other cheap fee). You get the key from the front desk for the lockers downstairs. There is also a locker outside the room itself, but you'll need your own lock for this. Each floor has one bathroom and one toilet (separated). Although the toilet is clean, and there's ample toilet paper, there isn't hand soap so oh well, bring your own. ||||Laundry is a little expensive, at 12 yuan per load (and they wash it for you, you just hand the laundry over to them at the front counter). You can dry it (30 yuan) or hang it outside yourself but when I was there it rained almost every 3 days haha.||||The factor that made me give it 5 stars was the common area, where you can sit until whatever ungodly hour you want for work and is well-ventilated and open. No complaints about the wifi. There are a couple of common areas, but the cafe and the common area just behind the cafe are both open to the garden and the alfresco area. There are plenty of electrical points to plug your stuff in. The cafe is pretty nice too.||||There is a supermarket just across the road from the hostel, where you can also find an array of restaurants (such as this one Buddhist vegetarian restaurant). There's a halal la mian place somewhere around, and there is a bunch of really nice cafes and an art gallery (the OCT- LOFT area) behind the hostel. The nearest metro stop is Qiao Cheng Dong (侨城东, line 1) which is a ten-minute walk or so from the hostel.||||Overall would stay here again if I came back...
Read moreAn abysmal customer service experience on the second day of my visit marred my stay at YHA LOFT Youth Hostel in Shenzhen OCT LOFT. Unfortunately, based on my encounter with the staff, I cannot recommend this hostel to fellow travelers, especially foreigners.||||On the second day of my stay, my girlfriend had already registered with the hostel, but we faced unnecessary complications. The staff threatened to call the police, despite her registration being in order. This incident left us feeling unwelcome and uneasy.||||To address the issue, I attempted to communicate with the staff and explain the situation, but they were dismissive and refused to listen to my concerns. In an attempt to document the interaction, I began recording the conversation, but they suddenly claimed not to understand English.||||Frustrated by their uncooperative attitude, I had to escalate the matter to the booking company to secure a refund for the third night, which the hostel had unexpectedly canceled. It was disheartening to realize that such a situation would likely not have occurred for a local Chinese guest.||||As a foreigner, I felt disregarded and discriminated against, with fair customer service seemingly reserved only for Chinese guests. This treatment left a sour taste in my mouth, and I strongly advise other travelers to steer clear of this establishment.||||In conclusion, YHA LOFT Youth Hostel in Shenzhen OCT LOFT failed to provide satisfactory customer service, and their lack of responsiveness and discriminatory treatment towards foreign guests left me deeply disappointed. I hope this review serves as a cautionary tale for others seeking a comfortable and welcoming place to stay...
Read moreNice hostel with lovely simple rooms and big windows (dorms and double rooms). Free wifi.||||Quiet / laid back vibe, good for all ages, lots of Chinese nationals and a few westerners. In the green zone so hostel is surrounded by mature trees, giving it a peaceful feel. ||||Lots of trendy cafes & restaurants in the surrounding OCT loft area. Local handicraft market nearby on the weekend (summer only?). Lots of Chinese holidaymakers strolling around and taking selfies on weekends and holidays.||||The area is not super well serviced in a practical sense, however there is a supermarket across the road, and ATM nearby. Subway is a pleasant 10 minute walk away. ||||Shared bathrooms for dorm rooms are handy and not over patronised. Good showers & hot water. Dim lighting in rooms - good for relaxing but not so great for reading or putting on make up. ||||Hostel has an environmental policy and has used some natural building materials in its construction. Free filtered water to reduce plastic bottle use. Smoking meant to be outside only. ||||Staff not particularly friendly....a sign next to desk says they 'help those who help themselves'. A bit more warmth would really transform the place. ||||Also a pity there is no longer a self service kitchen, with the supermarket just a few steps away, and most nearby eateries are quite expensive. In the supermarket building though, on the next floor up there is a good casual buffet style cafe with a big variety of dishes from around...
