I've been staying at the hotel on and off for work over the course of this year and have waited to write this review just in case the hotel was on the improvement. In short it isn't. The La Flora Cafe supposedly serves a Western Breakfast but the majority of the food is over soaked in oil and not very nice. The coffee itself is absolutely disgusting and the worst I've ever tasted. The gym is poorly maintained and never open on time with staff regularly seen sleeping at 6am when the gym is already supposed to be up and running. I've stayed on different floors in Building B and without fail there is always a lingering stench of cigarette smoke and butts left lying about despite signs stating that there is NO SMOKING allowed (in both english and chinese). Every time I've stayed there I've asked for my balcony to be opened so that I can get some fresh air and EVERY time the lady at the front desk carries on about how dangerous it is and how they like to keep it shut and every time I have to create a scene in reception to get it opened. The drinks in the mini bar taste different to those in other countries despite being mini's of brands like Grants and Chivas Regal (they all taste watered down). The transport to the ferry and elsewhere is NEVER on time and when you are there for work/business you need to things to be ready when they're supposed to be. The location is good ( a short walk from the train station and restaurants). In short I've stayed in many hotels around the world but staying at the Mingwah is not by choice. I'd happily pay to come back to Shenzhen with my family for a holiday but wouldn't pay to stay at the Ming Wah as it's well past its prime and the food and other facilities are not worth the price being demanded. Although the hotel has an internet connection in the room it's often unusable during peak times to which some people would say that's life, but remember this is supposed to be a business hotel. A great example of good service is The Boat in Seaworld where breakfast is a true combination of Western and Chinese, the Internet is not only reliable but is connected via VPN so you can have a normal internet service not the b grade Chinese version that's heavily restricted. I've raised all the points above with hotel staff previously but have nothing improve so have taken to Trip Advisor to not only vent my frustration at D Grade service but wanr other people of what this place is like so that they can make an...
Read moreStayed in a 2-room suite at a special rate (due to inviting company) that was acceptable for Shenzhen. The rackrates are too high though for the quality starting at RMB 900 per night. The suite was quite spacious, with a balcony and everything you would expect from a business 4-star hotel except for an iron and although clean had visible traces of deterioration. The breafasts were ok, but nothing special. Wi-Fi was unstable at the room, so sometimes I had to go down to the lobby to send and receive files and make voip calls. Building B had a nice medium size swimming pool with a sauna and jacuzzi is open from 6 a.m. till 11 p.m. The location in the area near the sea and rich in restaurants makes it an accommodation...
Read moreI have stayed in this hotel 6 times since early 2015, there is nothing great about the hotel except that it is located within walking distance of Sea World. During my last two visits I had smokers near my room (this is a non-smoking hotel), when I complained they asked me if I wanted to change rooms! That lasted 2 days. I returned this week and went through the same problem with a smoker near my room. I complained 5 times, each time they go to the room and ask them to stop smoking, that is it. I checked out this morning and will never return, along with the 150 man-nights my company spends...
