I paid more than US$500 for a 2-night stay in early Oct and it was the poorest stay experience ever at the hotel.
A quick summary of what happened: I am a platinum member and the hotel tricked me into a room "upgrade" which was actually a downgrade (narrower sea view and lower floor despite I purposely picked high floor with higher price). I had 2 sleepless nights because the mattress was so worn out and I could feel the springs underneath and the sofa was in the same condition with a big stain on it. They hotel also tried unannounced pre-charge attempts followed by a threat of booking cancellation.
The core value of a hotel is to deliver comfortable stay experience. In comparison with my stay experience, the other issues like failure to meet room request, unprofessional check-in experience, poor cleanliness (e.g. dirty carpets) seemed nothing.
What's worse is the attitude of customer/member support I've encountered since the day I made a formal complaint. They used routine replied and tried to pacify me with the bear minimum by "dumping" 10,000 IHG points into my account. It was never an acceptable solution for me but they were so eager to close this matter. To put into context, 10K IHG points is about US$50.
I am so disappointed by IHG. Experiences like this significantly diminish trust in the IHG...
