Where to begin.. First, let me say that my expectations for this place were really low, since I know what to expect in a small Colombian town and what the term hotel means. Also, I am NOT light sleeper.||||I will start with the good, it is a pretty quaint place, with a nice view of the cathedral. rooms and bathrooms are clean, there is wifi, tv, breakfast is really good, Colombian style, arepa, eggs, pandebono and your choice of hot Colombian chocolate or Colombian latte and the lady (cant say she is the waitress because I think she is waitress/reception desk person) was really kind and attentive.||||Location, centrally located, you can walk and be back to your room in a very short period of time. ||However, location can be a con as well since it is so close to the cathedral that you can hear the bells chime every 15 minutes and on the hour through the whole night, the ones at night are not that bad, but the sound at 6AM dear God! they are meant to get you out of bed and head to church for 6AM mass. The noise from the main square (music, traffic, and people) can be heard easily, as well as any noise from the other rooms, you feel like you are staying with everyone in the same room, since there is not the slightest soundproof...||Matresses are really hard, hot water is only an illusion since it is only lukewarm, bathroom is tiny.||but to me, the really worst part, was that the person at the reception desk (not the kindest) smoked continually so the moment you walk in, you can smell the smoke and if your room is in the front of the hotel mine was on the second floor but I could smell it from there.||I did not had a good night s sleep there, I chose the place because of the location and my expectations were not very high since it is very cheap and you get what you pay for. But next time, maybe I would stay a little farther from the main square and pay a taxi if I have to, just to find a quiet place, I think I can deal with the rustic of small town hotels and maybe I wouldnt be so bitter if I had had a good...
Read moreHotel Porton Plaza has lots of rooms with ensuites. It doesn't matter how many people stay there as the flat price is 30,000COP or about $15. It is clean, homey and safe. The kids and their new dog ran around the check in area.||||It is located close to the edge of the plaza and that is where the problem comes in. The cathedral clangs its bell every fifteen minutes. Yes, that right. So at 03:45 you are going to get three ear-wrenching clangs. Then at 04:00 you will get four plus four gongs to tell you the hour.||||I realize it was built in the days when people didn't have watches. But get with the times as everyone can glance at their mobiles to find out...
