** UPdated after returning three times. The hotel has gotten so much better since the restaurant changed hands. It has become a placid, beautiful restaurant to go with the beautiful pleasant vibe the rest of the hotel has. Simpler, less in your face, and milder. I like the new restaurant better. Also, the rooms are in the midst of being improved, new A/Cs, new bright, simple beach-themed decorations. Nice. The rooms are still nearly as cheap as the moldering cabinas you can find nearby. But these rooms are always spotlessly clean and Marta the maid never stops smiling. It's catchy. I adore this place, and it is still the best kept secret of the locals.
In the area, there are not too many places to go cheaply that aren't expensive or falling apart. I stayed here for a few weeks and the maid was honest, and the room was always spotlessly clean and the air conditioning worked well.
There is a TV in the bar area, if you have to have it. We didn't want it. The locals are great. Go out and enjoy the things to do. Just leave any valuables in the safe. The front desk can be trusted at this hotel. Don't expect an American hotel, just expect a good hotel at local rates that is actually quite wonderful.
We came for the beach and it was BOOM, just on the other side of the deck chairs outside my room. You can't get closer to the beach legally. The sound of the surf will be ever present... I loved it.
I highly recommend the beachfront rooms, they're comfortable, spacious - ridiculously cheap for the size, and have plenty of room for a family. I had four kids with me and we all had plenty of room - I still had my own bed. Switched over to a room on the other side, and enjoyed a view of the plaza that was quite enjoyable in it's own way, but I prefer the beach.
There is a megabucks-hotel with a fantastic, soft, magical seashell beach that you can gain access to just south of Brasilito Beach called Conchal. I love both beaches, but Conchal is special.
The Brasilito Hotel manager speaks English, Spanish, German and French, so you won't run into problems there. Plus they know the area very well and make some very good recommendations to you. The surf instructor they recommended was fantastic with the kids. The fishermen were fun to watch early in the morning, as we took our walks along the beach.
When I left, I missed it. I didn't run into this kind of hospitality and real Costa Rican "village life" experience anywhere else...
Read moreThe property is a little oasis in a part of town that is gritty and honest in comparison to the luxury resorts that are only a stones throw away. We loved it! The staff take pride in their work and it was evident and heartfelt. My favorite person deserves to be recognized because he is the reason I never felt unsafe. He is the overnight security guard Elias and I want to publicly acknowledge and thank him :) I write in the wee hours of Costa Rica and Elias made me feel safe enough to be outside enjoying the weather and soaking up inspiration for my work. He was personable, friendly and attentive to the surroundings. The waiter Freddy is an absolute delight and gentleman who deserves all the kindness the sun brings to us folks visiting from old man winter. He greeted us everyday and gave us insider tips on snorkeling and other hidden gems. Our room had AC that worked impeccably and the shower was hot. The pool was delicious and the level of cleanliness and care overall rivaled lodgings with much higher price tags. The only annoyance was the leaf blower in the morning. It made the estate tidy but 8 is a bit early. You will absolutely adore the manager Massiel. I don’t think I’ve met someone so gracious and pleasant before. If you want to experience a raw Tico town that offers easy access to it’s famous (yet crowded at times) sister beach, Playa Conchal, stay a few nights at Hotel Brasilito and show the staff some...
Read moreSmall and simple but cute hotel by the beach. I loved it, although improvements can be made. The room was spacious and very clean, with a basic bathroom -with a hair dryer- that was sufficient. The beds were large and comfortable, and the sheets were practically new and silky. The small swimming pool of pristine water and the nice plants and trees around make a romantic corner. Maintenance of the property is great, it is really well kept in terms of vegetation, paint, clean pool,, etc. The hotel is just by Brasilito beach -but walking to Conchal beach is highly recommended, short walk.
On the negative side: The hotel does false advertising in Expedia, as there are no spa facilities, they don't give you beach towels, and they don't offer breakfast, even if you want to pay because. The restaurant opens at 11 am and is way too expensive for what they offer, compared to the little restaurants around. They say they have airport shuttle, but in reality it is a taxi service, and their $100 charge each way is insane (private taxis charge half that price, or you can take a bus with companies TIG (Transportes Integrados Guanacastecos) or Transportes La Pampa. Bryan at the reception was the only nice staff. The bars in the area are way too loud at night.
All things considered, yes, I would...
