The Best Affordable Place with Outstanding People
For years I wanted to visit Tortuguero National Park. Time past, and then I moved to the USA which became me new home. I promised myself to visit Costa Rica at least once a year to see my family. This time, I wanted to take my parents to a very special place, and they chose Tortuguero. I was thrilled about the idea of getting to this paradise for the first time. I had heard many stories about the flora and fauna, and as expected the beautiful people from Limón.
I chose Cabinas El Icaco based on the reviews and the location. At first I was a little concerned because the owner told me we could choose a package with breakfast only, the other meals could be gotten at nearby small cafeterias or "sodas" as we call them in Costa Rica. I wanted my parents and my recently college graduated Godson to have the best time of their lives. And oh boy I was not wrong about the choice I made.
Gerald Jose Atencio, Erick (Receptionist) Sharian and Isarly (Cooks) treated us like their own family. They represent the best part of Costa Rica. There is a song that states " The best of Limón is its people" and that is absolutely true. We fell in love with the attention they gave us. They are like those gems you find at hidden places, so warm and truly adorable people.
On the same cabins we were connected with Luis Mendoza who was our tour guide the following day. It was way better than expected. We jumped on his paddle boat and he took my parents, my Godson another American tourist and myself to places no other hotels will be able to take their customers to. Through small canals, in the middle of the jungle we saw lots of animals. Luis loves what he does, and we ended up loving him. What a great human being, extraordinary and knowledgeable professional.
When making the reservation from the USA, the owner guided me from Costa Rica. He provided me with all the information I requested. He was so accurate about the place to take the boat " La Pavona" the cost of the two hours ride by the river to get to Tortuguero.
This place is not only affordable for all budgets, it is also located right in front of the Caribean. It is just perfectly located for those who want to relax. The cabins were spotless and the breakfast was great, Sharian and Isarly really know how to make everybody love our Costa Rican food.
One last thing I want to state, in the afternoon my parents wanted to have a cup of coffee and we had to go out to get it. Gerald had a great gesture to brew some coffee for them...those are the little details that make Costa Rica a wonderful place to live in, and I believe Cabinas El Icaco made a great decision when he was hired. Those coffees are part of the best memories I got from Costa Rica, he treated my parents with love and respect. Thanks so much Gerald. I look forward to visit you guys...
Read moreWe loved it here. The staff were so friendly, shoutout to Diego and Joshua! The room was simple but perfect for what we needed. Very clean and comfortable. They also serve breakfast for about $7 a person which was nice on our final morning, and they shape the pancakes like turtles! The beach access was really nice and it’s very close to town and the park. The little seating area outside the rooms was so nice for relaxing and we even had a show from a family of great green macaws! The hotel staff also hooked us up with a turtle tour, a canoe trip, and a night tour. Bernie led our turtle tour with a wealth of information about the turtles and conservancy efforts. He was excellent. Arturo led our canoe and night tour. We saw tons of wildlife with him, it was incredible how good his eyes were. He also had so much great information. At night, he took us through the jungle, was very informative and entertaining, and even helped us take photos. His photo skills are unparalleled! We had a lovely experience in Tortuguero with much help from...
Read moreRelatively easy comfortable stay. Understand, this is an island in the Caribbean with no roads. There are no hiltons, or super 8's for that matter. As a budget option, it was clean and well kept. Everything worked. Small room, matress and pillows ok. Hot water. They cleaned daily, and changed the bed linens daily. Like all other places, pilliows sheets and rowels. No blankets nor face cloths. Like most non air conditioned places here, open air windows (no glass) means that you will hear ppl, dogs, birds, cats, the wind... Quiet time is 8:00 pm. Mostguests were respectful of that. The one group who were talking abd laughing at 11:30 became quiet and apologetic wgen asked (Yup.I am that guy.) Breakfast...sucked. However the best restaurants in town don't make it qny better, so I cannot hold that against them. Close to the ocean. Most places are on the canal side. I enjoyed being close to the beach...where the...
