Bed bugs. I stayed here two nights before a flight to Osa and woke up after the first night to bites on my back (photo attached and was taken in the room- does not show all the bites as they were down my back). I was under the weather so I didn’t care to make a big deal of the issue and just asked that they come change my sheets, which the hotel agreed to do but did not offer a room change… I went down to the lobby to show the front desk the bites on my back and they immediately looked worried. I’ve never been bitten by bed bugs, but they seemed to know right away what happened. I only knew this was likely bed bugs because I uploaded the photo and symptoms to chat GPT (small red itchy bumps in a zig-zag pattern, on skin that was exposed during sleep). I believe my feeling sick was unrelated, but I wanted to wash EVERYTHING and went downstairs to the front desk to ask for detergent to wash all of my items and to switch rooms. They still told me I needed to pay for each pack of detergent despite that I was washing all of my belongings due to there being BED BUGS in my bed which bit me. I handed over my card and said “given the situation, I think this should be free”… I spent the next 12 hours at the hotel running up and down to the washer over and over until everything was washed. This was the LAST thing I needed given that I was not feeling well. I could not wash my backpack or suitcase. Upon checkout, I kindly mentioned that I would be writing a review about the bed bugs just to warn other hotel guests. They still did not offer to do anything or remedy the issue in any way. I would like to point out that there was one front desk staff that was very kind I believe her name was Sasha or Saysha.

Great to be back to a Western hotel, with air conditioning, clean floors, toiletries in shower, proper toilet flushing including toilet paper. We had room 607. Free shuttle was easy to use from San Jose airport, no reservation required but we gave a tip to the driver. Very affordable, $119 USD in November. The shuttle is available for leaving to the airport also, even early in the morning. Easy check in with digital room key if you have the Marriott app. No ice machine on 6th floor. Walmart is right next door for cheaper groceries or souvenirs before going home. There's a small plaza next door, so it gave us more restaurant options for meals and last minute shopping. I would recommend this hotel if you're transiting to/from SJO to the other parts of Costa Rica. We didn't go into San Jose city at all.

Great service from staff very friendly and kind, facilities were lovely We loved the convenience of the shuttle transfers from SJO airport even a drop off to near City mall Alajuela shopping centre Also perfect location to walk across the road to different food options like Mexican, Argentinian and Peru restaurants. Think our suggestions to the Hotel would be a small fridge in rooms, as we needed to keep medications in a fridge for both nights, and the likes of providing milk for hot drinks in room, jug of water? Other than that we had a lovely stay ! Pura vida!

I arrived with a queen bed suite booking , I have stayed at this hotel before with no issues. When I arrived they argued with me for 30 minutes that the bed in my room is a queen when it's a double bed, I showed them the reservation with a clearly queen outlined as bed site and suite , they basically gave away our room because we checked In late , lied about the bed size , and claim they had no other rooms available . Conveniently the manager arrives at 8 am when our flight is at that time.

Josue was kind and professional and tried to solve the situation by offering a room with two double beds to solve our sleeping arrangement issue

There was another female staff member who was rude , spoke over me several times and claimed all their queen beds are " that size" implying I don't understand double vs queen sizing. There is some serious staff training required for that individual , I have never been treated so rudely in a professional setting.

I would urge the management to review the online booking on their site and the envoy app to make sure they update the room has a double bed not a queen if the female staff member was correct. This causes lots of issues for customers as they arrive

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone based on my experience , I will be reaching out to head office management as I suspect locally they are not equipped to deal with customers feedback

Beware of booking scam , even when you book on bonvoy app and website from Marriot , they pretend they can't understand double bed vs queen in reality vs what's in the room

Don't ruin your holidays specially if you are coming in with children , it can be frustrating , and worst of all the staff professionalism may be lacking greatly in the case of the female front...

The service was friendly and helpful. The hot complimentary all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet was great. The room was clean, reliable. The shower was clean, hot, with great shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers. What I hated was that you can hear absolutely everything from the hallway. There is nothing in the room to buffer the sound, especially now that they use synthetic hardwood flooring instead of carpet. The AC is almost silent, which I suppose is a perk for some. For me, I rely on ambient noise to mask unwanted outside noises, especially while sleeping.

I liked the pillows and bedding a lot, but the mattress was very stiff.

The air conditioning was confusing to use because it was hard to tell whether it powered on or not, when we pushed the buttons. It required some trial and error.

I liked the window curtains and blinds. They made the room very dark which is great for sleep. The outlets were great for charging all our devices. The toilet was high quality. The bathroom was pretty. I wish the bathroom had a dim lighting option for nighttime.

We did not try using the TV. It was easy to connect to the wifi.

Before our trip, when I needed to call the front desk to confirm some information, they were very helpful. They are very fluent in Spanish and English.

The Courtyard hotel is right next door, less than 1 minute walk away. There is a shopping mall directly across the (small) street, also within very quick walking distance from the hotels. There is a free shuttle from the airport to the Fairfield and Courtyard hotel, which is super helpful. I believe it picks up passengers from the airport at 00:15 and 00:45 of every hour. I believe it runs from 4am - 1am, but I may not remember that part perfectly. Call ahead...
