City Mall Alajuela is without a doubt one of the largest and most complete shopping centers in Central America. With over 365 stores, it offers an incredible variety of shopping options for every taste and budget. From international fashion brands like Zara, Bershka, Pull & Bear, Forever 21, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, and Under Armour, to accessories and footwear from Pandora, Steve Madden, Tous, Aldo, and Kenneth Cole, the mall truly has something for everyone. On top of that, you’ll find electronics shops, pharmacies, supermarkets, banks, optical stores, gyms, beauty salons, a movie theater, and even a small amusement area — making it a one-stop destination.
When it comes to food, City Mall does not disappoint. The food court is extensive, offering quick bites, local flavors, and international fast food chains. Beyond that, there’s a gastronomic zone with sit-down restaurants serving international cuisine, Italian pastas, and more. A standout option is Bottega Privée, a stylish Italian restaurant with a casual yet elegant atmosphere. Around the mall you’ll also find favorites like Tikka Masala, Rostipollos, Spaghetti Factory, and cozy cafés such as Cafetini, perfect for breakfast, coffee, or a snack.
The mall itself is modern, spacious, and designed for comfort. Parking is large and efficient, with contactless payment options. Inside, it’s fully air-conditioned, pet-friendly, and offers family-friendly services such as nursing rooms. Its central location in Alajuela, with direct access from the highway, makes it very convenient for both locals and travelers.

Read moreMy visit to City Mall in Alajuela, Costa Rica, was a fantastic experience that showcased why it’s considered Central America’s largest shopping destination. Located at Radial Francisco J. Orlich, this sprawling, modern mall boasts over 330 stores across four levels, offering everything from high-end fashion to local crafts. The vibrant atmosphere, enhanced by bright lighting and a clean, well-maintained environment, makes it a shopper’s paradise. I was particularly impressed by the Aliss department store, where I found a great selection of clothing and home goods at reasonable prices, though some items, like international brand sneakers, can be pricier than expected. The food court is a highlight, with diverse options ranging from local Costa Rican dishes like casado to international favorites like Argentine cuisine. I enjoyed a delicious meal at Los Pira Taquería, known for its tasty tacos, for about 4,000 colones. The mall also caters to families with a Cinemark cinema, an arcade, and even a Ferris wheel, ensuring kids have plenty to do. Entertainment options like occasional concerts add to the lively vibe. Ample underground parking and amenities like free WiFi and ATMs make it convenient, though the parking payment system can be tricky—validate your ticket early to avoid a rush. While the surrounding area may feel a bit rough, the mall itself is safe and welcoming, with pet-friendly policies and strong air conditioning. Accessibility could be improved for those with disabilities due to limited elevators. Overall, City Mall is a dynamic hub for shopping, dining, and fun, perfect for a full day out. I left with souvenirs, a full stomach, and...
Read moreNot recommended go there! Don't bother going there! Horrible experience! The food is good, but pick pockets all over the place, security cameras never conveniently work! Prices are very high, the worst of all was the parking experience. ATM type machines that don’t work. Foreign owners that rum a scamming business with the parking machines and the parking ramps. We paid for the parking with a ticket card, the machine gives me the receipt but not the card, and I assume that the machine was broken and swallowed it. Nobody around to help us, so I believe that the pay receipt was enough proof to leave the mall. NOT Really! The foreign manager along with other 2 employees, insulted my AMERICAN husband, My American son and me (Tica) and accused us of stealing or losing the card. We could not leave the City mall without paying $8.extra dollars to replace the ticket card that the machine decided to keep. We are disgusted and dissatisfied. Finally We ended paying the additional 8 dollars . I saw the laughter in the face of one of the employees.
I asked other people if they have similar experience every one in my Costa Rica’n family say that this City Mall is the worst of the worst. Don't bother going there! Is horrible to see what crooked foreign business people are doing with my dear beautiful Costa Rica country, killing the tourism, the economy, the...
