The Life Palace hotel is a boutique hotel of (we reckoned) 17 rooms in the middle of the old city of Sibenik. It has a café/bar, open during the daytime only, and a spa which we didn’t see.|Our room was a big one, with stone outer walls overlooking a busy public square with restaurants and buskers – never a problem, since the double-glazing was efficient - and we enjoyed watching large numbers of swallows flying at dawn and dusk. The bathroom was straightforward – toilet, shower, sink – and in decent condition with plenty of flat surfaces. Overall, the room was very comfortable, with the significant exception of a lack of storage. In particular, the wardrobe was small with hanging space too short for a woman’s dress, or even a man’s jacket. With huge amounts of floor space available, this makes no sense – unless the furniture budget ran out.|Breakfast was a pure buffet – no service or cooking to order – and was fresh and acceptable, but unexciting.|The staff were few in number but excellent in quality. They were always helpful and one went well beyond the call of her duty in helping me to get some broken spectacles fixed.|Finally, readers should know that there is a price to be paid for such a characterful hotel in such an excellent location. That price is that the area is pedestrianised and there is no access for any motor vehicle. There are potential drop-off points not too far away, but choose the wrong one and you will need to climb a lot of steps, definitely putting the “lug” into “luggage”. Fortunately there are points with step-free access some 250m away;...
Read moreThere are many heritage hotels in Croatia, comprising historic buildings sensitively repurposed as hotels. The Life Palace was our first experience of a heritage hotel and it certainly has the required historic credentials. As you would expect, the hotel is well-located in the old centre of Sibenik. It’s within a few minutes’ walk of the town’s main sights, although there can be a lot of climbing involved in those short walks! ||Given its location, it’s not possible to drive right to the hotel. We parked our car in Poljana Public Garage, which is a modern underground carpark close to the hotel.||The staff we encountered at the Life Palace were a mixed bunch, ranging from slightly surly to extremely welcoming (the latter very much outnumbered the former). Breakfast was a highlight, with helpful staff who gave us the option to eat inside the building or outside in the square which the hotel fronts.||Our room was very pleasant, with a slightly whiffy bathroom. We soon discovered that this is a feature of many historic...
Read moreWe chose this place because of the nice atmosphere and the good reviews. Unfortunately, we were disappointed in more ways than one. We ordered water(sparkling) and 2 drinks. The water came (still) and one glass was still very hot due to the dishwasher. Only at my request it was exchanged for a cool one. Next to it i dont wanted to request also the water, so we drunk the still one. Then came the Aperol Spritz and lemonade. The lemonade was lemon juice with water. Again not cool, no mint, no sugar.... Aperol Spritz without orange, taste moderate.
When we wanted to pay, no one came to get the money so we brought it in. We had it suitable but without I would probably still be waiting today for my change. Inside I have addressed the waiters on it, I think it's fair, next to a review, to have directly the conversation to them. New employees were called me as a reason. An employee can only deliver good performance through good training.Maybe this should be improved
Will not go there again...
