Church of St. Francis — Attraction in Grad Šibenik

Church of St. Frane was erected in the second half of the 15th century on the far south-eastern part of the historic city center near the sea. Church of St. Frane was devoted to May 31, 1423. Since 1970, by occupying the bishop this church has been proclaimed for the Croatian National Shrine of St. Nikola Tavelić. This sacral building is decorated with baroque altars, the sides of which are preserved to this day, while the main marble altar with stone superstructure was largely removed during the rest of the seventies of the 20th century. Exceptional value in the church is the organ of the well-known organist of the organ of Petar Nakić who has also been restored. The church of St. Francis is definitely one of the highlights of the city of Sebenico because of the beautiful 4 altar paintings by Matteo Ponzone (here in Croatia called Matej or Matija Pončun), 1635-39 and 1655, which are not only his own masterpieces, but masterpieces in their own right.
