This hotel has been a big disappointment. We've stayed in various 5 star hotels all round Croatia and this is possibly one of the worst "5 star" hotels (I would give it a 3 stars max).
But firstly, the positives: nice location close to Rovinj, big cycling area and walking area close to the hotel, you can easily walk to a public beach/rock, staff all around the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful, which we really appreciated!
For the rest: The hotel is very outdated, the rooms are worn out, bathrooms, beds (bed sheets, towels, etc) for some reason always felt dirty and smelled weird. The rooms really have many scratches, smells, the bathroom and shower cabin very strange black mold in the corners and joints, it really need full renovation, the toilet seats were yellow and seemed now clean. The water sinks and shower drain were constantly blocked and water didn't go through (we had 2 rooms and it was the case in both rooms). Even after the staff cleaned it the issue came back. There is a worn out and smelly carpet floor in all the rooms - this is very unpleasant and can't be helped. The hotel is very dog friendly, never seen so many dogs in one hotel, this may explain the overall smell, carpet, wear and tear issues plus more. Food in the hotel was mediocre at best. Breakfast buffer below average 5 star quality (even for Croatia), way too busy in the morning. Lunch was even worse - the quality of the food was appalling. There are limited dinner options at the hotel (only the a Japanese restaurant and otherwise you have to step out). The hotel does not have its own pool or beach! The pool is shared with another 4 star hotel (which is huge and hosts many people). The pool chairs are impossible to find and always felt like a 2 star public resort as people just sit on each other's heads basically so we never could stay there. The beach is also shared with at least 2 other hotels plus the public - probably the worst beach and most crowded i've seen in Croatia! The indoor pool was a big disappointment too as it was very cold (even in the middle of summer) and felt in need of renovation. the water temperature really inadequate. Special attention to hotel furniture in the indoor pool and the breakfast restaurant - plastic, outdated beds, chairs and tables highly uncomfortable and remind you of IBIS hotel in the 1990's The kids club decided to move to the hotel's games room (for some reason), so if you drop off the kids there they will be surrounded by huge screens the whole day and games played all around - it's hard not to watch these things. The young animators working at the club were bored and lacked enthusiasm to engage with children - it's obviously easier to just sit there as the kids entertain themselves with screens and computer games.
So essentially an outdated, stinky, worn out and overpriced hotel with no privacy at all either at beach or pool (all public!), poor food quality and comfort overall.
Won't be back , but the pets (dogs) probably love going there!

Read moreThe Lone Hotel in Rovinj is a great hotel where the benefits clearly outweigh the negative factors.
To quickly cover the negative factors, firstly we had huge dogs on our floor and their owners did not guide them on a line and instead the dogs walked on their own. One was a Labrador and the other one was an even bigger one but not sure what kind of dog it was. Considering having lots of young children in the hotel, this is not that great for families. I think it would make sense if the hotel forces dog owners of bigger dogs to walk them on a line in the interest of all parties involved.
The next negative factor is that the pool and beach are entirely overcrowded. You have 3 hotels using the small beach area, the Lone, the Eden and Monte Mulini Hotels. And the Eden and Lone hotel use the small pools together (Monte Mulini has its own pools). All 3 hotels have about 700 rooms in total.
By taking the shortest way and swimming in the small bay where most people are, you quickly realize how dirty the water is and we had all types of dirt in there from fruit bowls, to plastic junk, wound patches and even poop swimming on the water surface.
That’s why we preferred going into the water directly below Monte Mulini. It’s only 30-50 meters more but worth it since here the water is as clean as it should be. For sure, the reason for all the dirt is the visitors act irresponsible and it’s hard to say what the hotel could do.
Other than those negative factors, the Lone hotel was one of the best spots we’ve ever visited. Considering that the hotel was opened in 2011, the infrastructure is in excellent shape for a 12 years old hotel. Even the mattresses were great. The rooms are huge, you have one of the biggest balconies you can expect and the bathrooms are luxurious.
The room service was always to the point and we’ve got a new bottle of water for free daily. Also the receptionists were always friendly and helped with every request and question. A strong guy helped us with our luggage and the staff was always friendly.
The breakfast was included in our rate and the offering is immense. You get quite everything you can imagine. We always got a table and we were well-prepared for the day after breakfast. Only one thing to complain here, I think the cook who prepares the fresh omelets needs a new pan because the omelets burned without her making mistakes.
Every night a band played songs and the walk to the town is only about 15-20 minutes from the hotel. You have the choice to either eat in one of the restaurants in the hotel or enjoy eating in the town. Still, if you want to eat in the town, consider making a reservation in busy seasons.
One thing though, the prices for Kroatia since the EURO was introduced as currency in 2023 went through the roof. You have to calculate with 40-50 Euro per person, which is far more expensive than it was a while ago. The prices in the Lone hotel restaurants were cheaper, even if they are a 5-star hotel.
All in all, staying in the Lone hotel was a great decision and experience. We’ll recommend the...
Read moreSince I am not getting any more answers from Hotel Lone, I will share my gravely disappointing experiences with your Hotel here in hope of getting a reply and solving my issue:
We stayed three nights in the Bay Suite at Hotel Lone from November 6th- 9th (booking number PH9353647). The hotel had authorized and blocked the whole amount of the booking cost (891€) on my bank card at the time of check-in, which is not per se unusual. We immediately paid the total amount of 891€ for the three nights upon checkout as usual on November 9th and asked the receptionist if he had already de-blocked the pre-authorized amount on my bank card. This was confirmed.
Now, after 3 weeks the hotel has still blocked the amount of 891€ on my bank card, even though the bill was paid immediately upon checkout. This certainly is NOT common procedure! I have called the hotel, I have written emails and the only information I got was first that it was the fault of my home bank (which it definitely is not as the hotel keeps blocking the amount of 891€ until the very specific date of December 9th!), then they tried to tell me there is nothing the hotel can do because it is the decision of their bank (which it is not). The last information I got was that their finance department is working on it together with their bank. I cannot express how ridiculous this behavior is and how sobering of an experience it is for an alleged 5 star hotel. I am starting to believe that this is a purposeful procedure because the hotel has lost a lot of revenue during the Corona pandemic and I don't have any trust in Hotel Lone or the Maistra Hotel Chain anymore.
Clearly, this is done on purpose and the saddest part is that I don't even get any replies to my emails anymore. I don't know what else to do. It is a disgrace for an alleged 5 star hotel to treat high paying customers this way. It is NOT common practice nor allowed nor reasonable to keep blocking almost 900€ on customers' bank cards out of sheer arbitrariness when all the bills have been paid rightfully immediately upon check out three weeks ago.
Since I don't even get replies from Hotel Lone anymore and assume the Hotel will keep blocking the 900€ further, I have no other choice than trying to reach out to Management on Social Media and I will leave my justified reviews and comments on every Hotel Booking website where Hotel Lone is being represented.
It is clearly a fraudulent operation and I am losing my patience and understanding.
I am waiting for Hotel Management to get in touch with me, you will find my details in the associated...
