We booked this guest house just a couple of days in advance as we'd bought 8am entry tickets to Plitvice Lakes National Park so wanted to be close by. Sixteen Lakes is only 5 minutes drive or about 15 minutes walk from Entrance 2. ||||Velinka, the owner, was really nice and welcoming. She was keen to give us a welcoming drink but we were tired and hungry after a long day travelling from the UK. She told us of a local bistro where we had dinner. We'd never have known about that if she hadn't told us so were grateful. The bistro had a local family feel to it - nothing fancy but exactly what we wanted. After dinner we had that drink with Velinka and a lovely, long chat. She is a very interesting lady who speaks perfect English and is very helpful. She gave us lots of tips and advice for our visit to the park the next day and also a map which was very useful as the park official map isn't great. We took all her advice and had a brilliant day in the park.||||We hadn't booked breakfast as there are many things I cannot eat but Velinka still gave us coffee and croissants. She also gave us a couple of cheese sandwiches to take for lunch which we were really grateful for as there was only one place to get food in the park and the queue was huge. ||||We had room 6 upstairs which was fabulous - really spacious, clean and very nicely furnished. The bed was just perfect - very large and comfortable. There was also nice shampoo, soap and shower gel. The shower was a bit exciting for my 6ft 2in husband as his head was above the jets and top of the shower enclosure but he managed and it made us smile! We were just very grateful that the bed was so fantastic for him especially as that is often the issue, not the shower! ||||I'm just sorry that our stay was only one night as it was a lovely place and I would have liked to chat to Velinka some more as well as enjoy some more time in her beautiful home and surroundings. The view from the balcony was...
Read moreI stayed with my wife for one night as we visited the lakes nearby.||Rarely have I received such a warm welcome, Velinka offered us both a free drink upon check in after showing us to our room and then gave us great advice on how we could best maximize our time in the area, providing a map of the lakes, instructing how long each walk would take, to make sure we get better value by purchasing a 2 day ticket and also informing us we should check the latest time boats and buses in the national park operate so we didn't end up having to walk an additional 5k by missing the last transport.||The room was very pleasant also, there was good wifi, a nice bathroom, a tv, balcony to sit out and ensure a beer and extremely comfortable bed, which was needed after walking round the lake in the evening time.||The breakfast was also extremely good value at €7 per person, there was so much food and she provided sandwich bags for us so we could prepare a lunch for ourselves to have in the park later in the day. The bacon omelette was tasty also.||I can't fault the place to be honest, I am so pleased I stayed here and was in the company of someone who was so knowledgeable and still had such enthusiasm about the area that she wished to share, we really made the most of our time in the Plitvice lakes as a result and it was a great way to end our trip around Montenegro...
Read moreSincere, authentic, generous, and genuine are words that best describe the hosts. Velinka and Maria are the best we have experienced — clearly not driven by money, but by the heart; they deliver an experience worth remembering and took great care of us. Nothing you ask seems to be too much for them.
The breakfast was amazing (and personalised). Furthermore Velinka knows the region very well (special tips for national park, and good places to eat).
If you appreciate the little things in life ✨🦋, make sure to visit Velinka and Maria in their cosy Sixteen Lakes Lodge and enjoy their hospitality.
On a practical note, the room and bathroom aren’t the most modern, but it is super clean and comfortable, provided with thoughtful attributes (soap, tea, clean towels, window blinds, a delicious Rakija, …). Finally, the bed was very good (coming from a 1.93m guy), and the location is great (assuming you’ll visit the...
