Palacio Barón & Balbín Cienfuegos — Hotel in Cienfuegos

This place was better than what we expected in so many different ways. We were given such a warm welcome from Leticia who is the manager. She even thanked our taxi driver for brining us from Havana safely! This set the tone for the short stay we had in this amazing palace! What a palace it was!! We were then provided with the amenities you received for living at Baron Balbin, which include private chefs dedicated to you’re culinary needs! If they don’t have what you want, then they will make sure they go and get it for you. The service we received was among the best I have ever come across. We later met Jose who owns the property; he gave us a full tour and history behind it. All the rooms have original features from the late 1900 – It was such a stylish colonial feel! I felt like I was taken back in time, but with a modern twist! Exactly what we were looking for. Jose was such a lovely guy, he reassured both my partner and me to treat the palace like our own! Allowed us to go up to the roof terrace (which was under construction) and ensured we had everything we needed. He also arranged transportation for us to get to Trinidad and back - We had our own driver who drove us there and came back to pick us up. He also arranged us transportation to Varadero within minutes!

From the moment you step in, you feel transported to another world 100 years back. Twisted columns and arches, Carrara marble staircase, old mirrors and exquisite doors and furniture, a delightful patio with plants, 7-m ceilings, and two terraces in the tower providing amazing views of Cienfuegos. The owner Antonio Jose Barón proudly tours you through the palace, explaining with great passion the history of the house and the details of the restoration. Outdoor dining is planned in the rooftop in the near future. The staff, Laetitia in particular, were also perfect hosts, helping out with directions and booking a taxi to Trinidad for the next day. The on-site chef cooks dinner and prepares a delicious breakfast before you set out to explore the town. Location is best in Cienfuegos, one block from Parque Martí, the city heart. We could not ask for a better treat for our family of three, and will always treasure the time we spent in Palacio Baron Balbin. An unforgettable experience that we recommend without hesitation for anyone visiting the nice city...
