Firstly, I want to question how this hotel has retained its 5* rating. It’s 4 at a push. Having travelled to and from Cyprus now for many years and stayed in a few of the surrounding hotels I was shocked to find out how poor this hotel is run, maintained and kept. Having watched this hotel be built I was most disappointed to finally stay in it.
The staff originally in reception we saw to check in were incredibly accommodating and friendly but that’s where it ended. Our first night we discovered that the A/C(which is incredibly outdated) started leaking from the ceiling from both the rooms hallway and from in the bathroom resulting in us having to lay towels on the floor during the middle of the night because it was a major slip hazard, the A/C was barely functioning and the room remained above 27°c all night and well into the next day after I had complained. They sent maintenance round in the morning who drained the system and said it will be ok. It was not, later on that day it started dripping yet again and towels were placed back down. I went to complain a second time, same scenario, a maintenance team where sent round to drain the system. At this point I’d had enough. And demanded a new room, the inside temperature was too much for my 5 month old baby who was struggling to cool down. We did finally receive a new room next door with functional air conditioning! But I will add, this was under protest by the reception team who were incredibly rude, didn’t want to help and just tried fobbing me off.
The main swimming pool is absolutely filthy, murky water, sediment all around it, and tiles and light fittings broken. The pool had zero flow, it was like the pumps had all been turned off! None of the jets in the hot tubs worked, none of the jets around the pool worked either. And if you had a lay in one morning, you may as well kiss goodbye to getting a pool side sun lounger as these where all taken by around 0600 with people going down and claiming them with towels, not something I expected from a 5* resort.
Morning breakfast, afternoon lunch and evening dinner is an absolute shambles too, tables not cleared, or not made up, or the hour long wait for someone to come round and offer you a drink, the buffet selection was inclusive and some good dishes where served, but overall not a great experience. Yet again staff inside the restaurant that didn’t seem to want to be working or even there. Or staff arguing between themselves right at the side of your table, one waitress even shouted across my table to another waiter calling him useless and a waste of space, not something you want to be listening too while trying to have your evening meal.
One thing I will say is the water park is fantastic if you have kids, as we stayed all inclusive with Jet2 this was included into our package and my daughter really did seem to enjoy it! You’re able to get drinks over there in your package deal along with some ice creams that did need to be purchased. They also served sandwiches but I will say these are incredibly dry and not worth eating!
Evening entertainment for kids is ok, but not great! If you’re there for a week or more I’d venture out of the evening, the kids entertainment is the exact same every night with the same songs played and same danced danced, although the kids entertainment staff did seem to be the friendliest there I do recommend that they switch it up at times as it becomes rather boring and repetitive.
Adult entertainment on the other hand is absolutely brilliant, some great acts where there while we stayed, from fire dances to Guiness record holders to a rod Stewart tribute night. Although the music played is rather loud and over baring at times. This goes through the hotel, whether it be round the pool to at dinner. They need to turn the volume down!
Oders throughout the hotel are vile, standard sea view problems from the room thag you pay an additional charge for, dirty carpets and tired rooms, this is by far the worst holiday I’ve had in Cyprus and one hotel I will not return too....
Read moreI stayed at this hotel for 7 nights in late April with my partner and 4 children. ARRIVAL. ,Staff were polite and friendly, and there are staff waiting with arrival drinks and porters ready to take your suitcases to the rooms. ROOMS..The rooms were kept clean throughout our stay. On arrival day the mini fridge was full with a selection of drinks and bottled water, please be aware that only the bottled water is refilled. There is also tea and coffee making facilities provided. Toiletries were provided and topped up during our stay. The room was a good size with a king size bed. The only negative was there is nowhere to hang wet clothes on the balcony area. BREAKFAST, LUNCH & DINNER.The food was really good, there is a big selection like what you would expect from an all inclusive buffet. Hot and cold drinks were also available. Please also be aware that some people have not got any hygiene manners and use their hands to cut bread / french stick and then put it back, there are teatowels and tongs provided but not everyone uses them, so no fault of the hotel but just something to be aware of. The staff were again polite and friendly. WATERPARK AND OUTDOOR POOLS...There is a good selection of pools and a pool bar available for the main pool area. The waterpark was open and just across from the hotel, there was a good selection of bigger and smaller slides for kids of all ages, the pools were cold due to the time of year, but the weather was in its early to mid twentys during the week we were there so definitely hot enough to be outside. The lifeguards were also friendly and encouraging to the kids to use all the different slides. There is a kiosk where you can buy drinks and cold snacks, please be aware if you are all inclusive with Jet2 you can get fizzy drinks and sandwiches for free. INDOOR POOL AND SAUNA..The indoor pool was nice and it was warm the sauna and jacuzzi you have to walk through the gym area to get to, so maybe not very convenient for some people, and the jacuzzi was just a bath with jets in a weird room, so not a proper one . LOCATION. The location is not great, nothing is really in walking distance. There is a bus stop just a few minutes up the road, so we used the bus ( 615 ) which takes you to either coral bay one side of the road or the bus station near kings mall on the other side where you can change buses to go to the harbour ( 611 ) from the harbour bus station you can get another bus bus to the waterpark in Paphos ( 615 ) or if you want to go to Paphos market/old town (610) so yes a few changes are needed. The prices for the buses are €2 per bus/journey, €6 for a day pass, ( all half price for kids ) which you can use on all changes etc and cash only. If U go to the kings bus station you can get a week pass for €25 and half price for kids, I would recommend this if you plan on using the busses a lot. Taxis are ridiculously expensive. ENTERTAINMENT.. there is a lobby singer every night, bingo for 6 nights of the week and then a parrot show for 1 night, which the kids really enjoyed. Unfortunately no real evening entertainment or mini disco for the kids, they have the room but it was all being used for storage and things were ripped out everywhere, so not sure what was going on there. Maybe they are going to refurbis. And we did go out of season, so that could be another reason why.
OVERALL. The hotel was nice , if I'm being picky it could do with a paint from the outside. Lobby area and bar was nice. The lifts are really slow around breakfast, lunch and dinner times, and this was out of season. There are just a few things that need touching up, so not really a 5* . There location is very run down. And it's on a beach front but you can't actually swim in the sea and there is no sand, so not great. But there are plenty of sites to see in Paphos and some nice areas. The harbour and coral bay are nice and so is the kings mall. Oh and the hotel shop is well overpriced, there is a Lidl and a supermarket at the mall which is half the price. Cigarettes and tobacco are cheaper at...
Read moreBalanced Review: Like others, we read the horrendous reviews and almost cancelled, on reflection we are glad we didn’t cancel but it is far from perfect.
The most important questions are Did we have a good time? YES. Did we feel we got value for money? YES.
The hotel is close to the airport so only a short transfer which was good. What you notice as you leave reception is that it is scruffy in places and does need maintenance throughout. We were happy with the room, it was a decent size and generally clean (if you didn’t look too closely). The maintenance issues carried on into the rooms but nothing major, toilet seat slipped all over the place, shower squirted water all over the bathroom and the patio door was amazingly difficult to open! We couldn’t work the air con out, called reception and the same friendly guy was there in minutes to show us which was brilliant.
The pools are fantastic, we had young children and it worked for all of us. We always found beds without going down early, I’m sure if you want the prime spots you have to get there early but generally it was fine. 3 Bars all around the pool and all the staff we friendly and helpful.
The water park is brilliant, kids loved it (so did the adults), nice pool there too to sit by and never seemed that busy. A bit annoying that you couldn’t use all inclusive there but we sneaked beers over without too much trouble and liked going there in the morning, back to the hotel for lunch and then the main pool with the bars for an afternoon drink. The lifeguards were brilliant, very vigilant, we actually saw one of them jump in an pull a child out who was struggling and they were cool, calm and professional.
The food was okay/good. I’m not fussy so I always found something nice but it was sometimes a little confusing looking at the selection to try and make a meal out of it. The kids selection was very basic, nuggets, chips, pasta & sauce, same every day. Great if that’s all your kids want but not much selection. Breakfast was always good.
The 3 restaurants are worth doing. The Greek is a set menu, it was A LOT of food and not great choice of mains or desserts for the kids, but nice. The Mexican & Italian is a bit of a con, it’s not actually 2 restaurants, just 2 sides of the same area but an amazing space, lovely roof top views and a nice place to be. Food was good, again, limited selection for the kids but nice. YOU MUST book these on arrival as otherwise you won’t get in or at a time you want.
Drinks were fine, beer was cold and fizzy, spirits were local but all tasted fine. The cocktails were quite basic, more spirit and mixers than cocktails (no fruit, garnish or umbrellas) but they were fine, as was the wine.
The evening entertainment was disappointing. On the terrace (which is a beautiful spot) there was usually a singer or musician, but it was more “pub singer” background music than entertainment. The kids entertainment was probably the low point. The room is horrible, it’s like a conference room with no windows, everything was sticky and a bit damp, the bar was a camping table with a cloth on it so everything was flat and warm (no ice down there) so not a place you want to spend your evening. It shouldn’t seem difficult to deliver Bingo, you must be able to get everything you need on Amazon? Not in the conference centre, what looked like one of the maintenance guys stepped on to the stage with a Tupperware box under his arm………….. He then proceeded to sit at what looked like an old school desk and rattle the box above his head whilst chanting “shaky shaky shaky” and shout out the numbers.
The reality is that it is not 5 star, it is 4 at best. Maybe there is still a hangover from COVID and there is a maintenance plan in place??? But, when we booked we paid 4 star money, we had 4 star expectations and we had a 4 star experience. It is a beautiful spot and if you are booked in I think you will have a great time. If you haven’t booked yet, and you want 5 star I suggest you...
