Such a charming hotel in the mountains. I really liked the ambience of the place and the fact that it has its old character.|The room we were given it must have been one of the old rooms because it had old furniture in it but the bathroom was fully renovated.|The bath is a bit on the small side but it's nice. What they had and I was impressed, is the blue light with the sensor which is really practical for people who get up at night and don't want to fully wake up.|The beds I wouldn't say I liked them but they were just okay. I wish the room had air condition or at least a fan for the hotter days. Also a fridge in the room would be nice.|The good thing is that they have black out curtains. |Also note that there is no elevator so if you have a problem you should mention it so they give you a room that can accommodate you better.|The breakfast is nice with all the basics, you can make your own frappe if you like which is a nice touch. I did not like the fact that the scrambled eggs were cold.|There is a beautiful veranda to enjoy your breakfast or even your lunch or dinner really calming beautiful place. ||In conclusion i am not sure if I would stay here again but I would definitely come and have dinner and enjoy the calming atmosphere the...

The restaurant has a great view and the staff is super helpful and friendly. The overal looks of the hotel are very characteristic and authentic. This is a great place if you want to escape from the business in the world and relax and walk/hike around.

However, it doesn't really have its own parking space. The rooms are quite outdated (especially the bathroom) and very dark. During weekdays there was nothing to do really. Which was nice in a way, because we wanted to relax. But sitting alone in a big restaurant isn't very cozy. In the weekend it was quite full and the restaurant was open, which served nice food. During the weekend more people slept in the hotel and it was really noisy (even after 2:30). When people walked up the stairs it sounds really loud like they're in your room. The two waitors were very nice and helpful, so we're the cleaning ladies. But the owner of the hotel (older guy) didn't really care about anything. Hardly said hi, didn't ask how our stay was when checking out and we had one complaint about the shower water being super hot randomly, but he laughed it away..

All in all it's a nice hotel and we would come back, but because of the things we mentioned above we think the price (100€ per night for 2 persons) is...

New Helvetia is a lovely, lovely hotel. So characteristic of Platres architecture and charm. But this hotel is special; it has a personality and a soul, a very unique type of deco and ambiance. You can spend time there and relax so much, whether in a living room or the veranda downstairs - music is often jazzy and not loud at all. Ideal to have a frappe, coffee, read, relax, chill, before heading into Platres. The staff is very helpful, polite and efficient. The present owner is the fourth generation keeping that hotel going, an energetic character, who can advise a lot on what to do in Platres. The hotel is very clean, it was renovated not long ago. Bedrooms and bathrooms are very nice with plenty of space (you will see our bedroom in the pictures so it's a bit messy because we already were in). A cracking old wooden staircase adds to the charm (no lift). It is located on top of Platres, only 300 meters from the trail leading to the Caledonia falls. The Hotel only serves breakfast, but you can still get ice creams, sandwiches during the day. I can only recommend this place: we would never go anywhere else. PS there are different kind of bedrooms

It was an incredible pleasure to stay at the New Helvetia Hotel! The location and the view from the windows are stunning with all the pine trees right next to the balconies and the mountain views all around. The birds (nightingales, as we learned) were singing all the time adding to the atmosphere of the place. The hotel is very close to the hiking trails. The hotel itself is a historical building with the hall, dining room, drawing room and the stairs styled accordingly. My husband and I felt like we had stepped straight into an Agatha Christie novel. There is a couple of fireplaces in the common areas, one of which was lit when we asked about it. There are board games as well, and we spent a lovely evening by the fireplace playing chess. The room we had was small, but functional, with two balconies with amazing views. The bathroom was modernized and very clean. It was also very quiet (we could hear only the birds singing). The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We are grateful to them for this experience. All in all, it was an amazing stay which I would recommend to everyone. We hope to come here again!
