We had Christmas lunch here. Service was very quick, you order and you get the food within minutes, which means they were prepared for Christmas service! Staff were ok. I expected the restaurant to be better prepared for a Christmas Day with nice table decorations but it was not. Personally, I didn’t care much for the food served, maybe the kofta was my favorite pick but many others on my table didn’t care for it. We tried a variety of grilled chicken, meat, kabab and lamb. The food was okay, all was eaten, but it wasn’t something I will go back to.
Update based on response from owners:
Reading the response that I got from this place, it earned a reduced rating. With such an attitude, I don’t understand how you get customers at all. To start with, if you are not willing and happy to serve people on a Christmas Day, and you would rather enjoy it with your family, then simply close the restaurant that day like 1000s of other restaurants do. But don’t open your door, then offer re-heated food then complain that you didn’t get to enjoy your day! Regarding the tavern, I visit cyprus at least 10 times a year so I am familiar with traditional taverns, however, clearly you were serving Christmas lunch, and you were prepared based on the reservations ( obvious as the food was already cooked and ready to be served) so as you are offering a Christmas lunch, it would have been nice to do some relevant decorations. The hotel stay is absolutely a NO! If this is how you deal with feedback from customers then staying in your hotel would be a miserable experience. However, we did stay in a nearby hotel with amazing views and had Christmas dinner there, definitely for less than 50 euros and was such an...
Read moreThe Village Restaurant in Pano Platres greets guests with a charming Greek-style tavern interior, rich with rustic character and a menu brimming with classic Cypriot and Greek dishes. Soft music plays in the background, though the volume borders on intrusive rather than atmospheric. In summer, the open-air layout brings authenticity but also unforgiving heat — without air conditioning, it’s a setting best enjoyed in cooler months.
Tables are neatly set with plates, glasses, and cutlery in advance, but some dust on the tableware undermines the otherwise warm first impression. Soft drinks arrive in their cans, accompanied by ice — a casual touch.
The halloumi cheese and moussaka came swiftly, with complimentary bread and bulgur. The cheese was satisfying, though the moussaka, served in a deep ceramic dish, was scalding hot, making immediate enjoyment impossible. Once cooled, it offered a pleasant yet unremarkable flavor.
A gesture of hospitality followed the bill — a complimentary dessert of deep-fried puff pastry with sweet cheese. While a kind offering, it was more novelty than necessity, rounding off the meal on a heavy note.
The Village Restaurant is a friendly, traditional stop for those seeking local specialties in an atmospheric setting, but fine-tuning the details — from table presentation to temperature control — would elevate it from pleasant...
Read moreI am really sorry to write this review as I was looking foreword to go to this tavern. We went as a family of 6. The waiter never gave as a menu . He just told us the food of the day. As he said not everything in the menu is aveliable to order. 3 of us wanted a mousaka and 1 of us koupepia , the other one wanted seftalies. We also had a toddler with us who we decided to get her a pourgouri. The waiter listening to our order he replied in shocked face when we asked for three mousakas. He said he can't have us ordering 3 mousakas as he wants to have aveliable for other customers. He would only allow us 2 mousakas and as he suggested we can all share in the middle. To be honest we went with it , found it weird but ok. We got the mousakas some koupepia ,seftalies pourgouri. The mousakas was nothing like a mousakas should be, there was next to zero zucchinis or aubergines inside and luck of flavour. Koupepia again next to no meat. Seftalies was really nice. Pourgouri never came. It was extremely disappointing. I wouldn't go back to it and wouldn't suggest it to anyone. I am a Cypriot .I am guessing people who gave better rate don't know how Cypriot food should taste or they went on a different day when...
