Travelling with two other couples, we all took the apartments... these are spacy with nice view on the main square with marvellous historical houses, a castle and the church. The bells will wake you up at 6am and, be aware, it is a very long” wake-up call”. The apartments are furnished in rather dark and oldish style, however matching the historical style of the town. Complimentary coffee and non-alcoholic drinks are available in the corridor. Wine is also available at a very reasonable price of some 6€/bottle. It is young wine but very good. The breakfast is rich and tasty, bio and homemade products are proposed. Local sparkling wine is also at the guest’s disposal. Our surprise came from the fact that between our two overnights, our rooms were not cleaned and arranged. When back at the end of the day, we found all as we left it the morning: beds open, used towels left where they were, glasses not washed… Maybe because it is a” pension” but we were not informed, warned. As we were inviting the other couples, we did not feel comfortable as we were responsible for the selection of this accommodation. There would have not been no problem should this point (specificity?) be mentioned on the website or at least verbally upon arrival. Hotel also proposes upon request a wine testing experience with a nice and rich cold and war buffet in a cellar owned by the pension. Located at some 500 m from the main building, it is just straight away, no way to get lost on the way back after the wine tasting! The tasting together with the explanations received (only in Czech or German) are interesting. The buffet was gorgeous. It includes homemade specialities, local farmers’ cheese and other typical local food. For the warm part, we opted for a very tasty ”koleno”, see photo. The wine is “à volonté”. Overall, the quality and the atmosphere was excellent. An experience not to miss for a very reasonable price of about 40-50€/PAX, wine inclusive. The pension disposes of its...
Read moreSome of my friends from around the world (US, France, Kenya, India) came to visit our beautiful country. They were truly amazed by Prague but they absolutely loved Valtice - and it was largely due to Mr. and Ms. Hosticky, our fantastic hosts and the owners of Penzion Valtice. They not only were super understanding of a last-minute cancellation of one of the rooms (and charged nothing) but also worked very hard to make our stay truly enjoyable. Two anecdotes stand out. First, as we we were preparing for a cycling tour of Lednice-Valtice, we learned that one of us can't ride a bike. Not only Ms. Hosticky arranged the bike rental but she also waited patiently while we tried to teach our friend to bike and brought us a cushion so that our friend could sit comfortably at the back of the bike when our teaching proved fruitless. Second, Mr. Hosticky organized a wine-tasting event for us in his gorgeous wine cellar. This was by far the best night out we've had together (and for some the best night out in months if not years)! He even gave us a private night tour of the historic wine cellars in Valtice! The owners' service and hospitality were simply outstanding. The rooms are nice, comfortable and spotless and the breakfast in the square pleasant. I'm not going to stay anywhere else in Valtice. We're definitely...
Read moreMy wife and I recently visited Prague and Budapest with another couple. We traveled from Prague to Budapest by rental car because we wanted to experience some of the Czech Republic countryside and small towns. We decided to stay at Penzion Valtice because of some good TA reviews. Great decision! The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the complimentary breakfast next door was very good. My wife talked a reluctant me into a bicycle ride from Valtice to Lednice and back using the penzion's bikes. I had not been on a bike in years, but what a scenic ride. The trail through the woods and fields was well marked and was an easy ride. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed a wine tasting in the basement level of the Chateau Valtice, just a short walk away, and enjoyed a very good dinner featuring local cuisine just around the corner at the Restaurace Valticka Rychta. Radek and his wife were very friendly and helpful and I would definitely recommend staying here when...
