I want to say a massive thank you to hotel Hamlet and all it's incredible staff! We got married in Helsingør and were struggling to find a place that could host 13 people the first weekend of November (turns out November 1st is a big celebration and party in Denmark). The first thing we noted is that the images you find online don't do the place justice. Reception area is so lovely and welcoming, the attached restaurant where breakfast is served is cozy and inviting (we went back in the evening for drinks, great atmosphere and fantastic staff). Yes the rooms are a bit small, but totally fine; beds are comfy, water pressure fantastic, hairdryer available, closet for hanging your clothes - we did not feel like we were lacking anything and really enjoyed retreating to our room.
Friday night, November 1st, was indeed very noisy - but I think it would be very fair to argue that anywhere you stay in town in a room facing the road you will get noise. If you struggle with noise, just ask for a room facing the small garden - some of our group had those rooms and were very unbothered by the noise.
Saturday and Sunday we didn't hear a thing and slept great :)
My brother has a 3 month old baby who joined as well - again staff was lovely. Super plus that they have an elevator, which made things easy for them.
Some family stayed in their apartment, which really was great. More spacious, with fridge, small kitchen & sitting area. If you want more space I would highly recommend seeing if the apartment is available.
My whole wedding party was really positive about the hotel, it exceeded everyones expectations (partially because some of the reviews are very negative).
THANK YOU HOTEL HAMLET!! I know we will be back to celebrate our 5...
Read moreThe small Hotel Hamlet is a strange little hotel. Helsingør is a beautiful little town and well worth a visit. If you do decide to stay the night, worth it as this is one of the most charming places on earth, I wouldn't discount staying here because the staff are very nice and helpful and the location is really very good, near the water and the train station. Although our room was on a corner and had lots of light, it smelled just terribly of old dirty shoes. The carpet we suspected. We bought a bottle of Febreze and nearly used it all in three days. We left our windows open to air things out until we missed closing them before dusk and had to contend with mosquitos. The Saturday traffic is quite crazy and the hotel is across from one of the loudest bars in town, which was loud until 2am when patrons streamed out, so if you do decide to stay at the hotel ask for a room in the back if you wish to sleep on Saturday night. The bathroom had no window so got very warm if the door was closed. If you are there on Sunday there are only a couple of restaurants that are open in the evening so be aware of that as well. One last thing, the staff was so helpful, that when I thought I had left my new Italian sandals in our room and asked them to check after we left-they did not find the sandals but they made sure to look and emailed us back, be aware though that they do not staff the hotel after 7pm so make sure you are all set...
Read moreThe room I got was old and amenities were really just no better than a motel, so I found the price overly expensive. The kettle was absolutely gross so there was no question of making tea with it. The bathroom and beds were fine, though furniture was old. The location is great, spitting distance from the train station and buses. The receptionist - when he was there - was quite friendly.
I had not realised the place didn't have AC. Luckily it was a pleasant cool evening, so I left the window open until about midnight and it cooled the room down enough for me to sleep. I've read about the bars being noisy, but I sleep very late so it didn't bother me, they stopped about 11pm.
I can deal with most of the above, but what really makes me not want to return ever again was the wierd experiences I had in the middle of the night that completely freaked me out. I asked the receptionist about the hotel's history the next day and my experiences, and all he said was, with a very nonchalant shrug, "it's an old hotel", like that explains everything!! I laugh about it now, but alone in that old room at 5am, I was quite...
