Hostal Canela y Miel — Hotel in Baños de Agua Santa

The way the word "hostal" is used differently in different countries can be confusing. When we booked here, we were thinking there may be rooms with bunk beds, lots of party people and the usual that one thinks of associated with hostels with an 'e'. Wrong!||||This is a sweet little hotel. I dare say if you have an abundance of luggage, this is not the place for you. The rooms are on the small side, but with carry-on luggage, it was perfect. For a location, it is excellent. The Basilica is on the corner and all of downtown starts a block from the door.||||We have been here for 4 nights and have thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance. The woman who runs the place is a sweet and kind woman. She has helped us get our laundry done at minimal cost and maximum convenience. The young woman who cleans the rooms goes above and beyond what we would have expected. ||||Yes, the rooms are on the small side and the bathroom is also small. However, there has been the best hot water here in both the shower and the sink of anywhere we have stayed in Ecuador and we have been here for 2 months already. The water pressure in the shower is like being under a waterfall. It is a delight to use, but using the hot water only could cause a severe burn. It is that hot. Incredible!||||Our room was on the street side, but the noise level was minimal. There are street vendors (3 of them) that cook and serve until about midnight and then leave. They are generally quiet. There is little traffic at night. ||||Another benefit is this hotel has the best WiFi of any place that we have experienced in Ecuador. It is very fast. ||||If we were to return to Banos, we would not think twice before returning here again. ||Thank you to the staff for a great time....

Good little hotel,very good location,8 minutes walk from the bus terminal,and only one quadra from the central parc and the tourist district.All kinda of restaurants around,from the street food vendors across the street and the mercado central food stands at 2,50 $ for a fulland excellent Ecuadorian meal to the pricier european style food places ,no lack of choices there.The hotel is clean,well maintained and affordable,breakie is included,good and prepared in front of you by the lady in charge of the hotel.although there's always something missing at breakfast,we had 2 days no mantequilla,1 day with no leche,1 day no fruit juice...but no big deal the staff is friendly and always trying to help.The down side,the rooms on the street side are very noisy,even more during weekends when people from Quito,Ambato or Rio Bamba come to Baños for the hotspring and thermal baths.Same thing for the hotel restaurant on the 5th floor.,we had to wait for more than one hour to get a table cleaned up and ready for breakfast and after that another 20 minutes to get our food.It happened only once though and it was on a sunday and the hotel was packed.The rest of the week was better,almost no wait time.Habitaćion #401 has a very small bathroom the gap between the toilet bowl and the wall is no more than 1' good luck if...

Hay muchos hostales en la pequeña pero hermosa ciudad de Baños de Agua Santa en Ecuador. Estuvimos comparando calidad y precios (no hay mayor diferencia) pero finalmente y por el aspecto (mejor que otros) nos decidimos por "Canela y miel". Preguntamos por un tour en "chiva" (un medio de transporte popular y turístico que sube al cerro más cercano de la ciudad) y nos dijeron que ellos lo podían incluir en el precio y que había que estar a una hora determinada en el lugar porque allí pasaría a buscarnos. Estuvimos y como la hora pasaba y no se aparecía, preguntamos a una de las personas a cargo (diferente de la que nos vendió el tour) y nos insistió que ya pasaría. Con unos 45 minutos de retraso apareció un joven en bicicleta que dijeron nos llevaría al lugar en que debíamos subirnos a la "chiva". Ya era un cambio. Dijo que era "a la vuelta no más", pero fuimos detrás de él caminando unas 6 cuadras o más. Cuando llegó la "chiva", no tenían espacio para que mi pareja y yo fuéramos juntos y dijeron que uno de los dos debía irse en la cabina. Una de las "atracciones" que tiene la "chiva" es que se va prácticamente al aire libre. Nos negamos y en unos 15 minutos nos ofrecieron otra (Ya había pasado más de una hora desde la ofrecida para salir al paseo). Es esta otra nos tocó un lugar pésimo porque íbamos mirando una gran tabla que va detrás de la cabina del chófer. Hicimos el paseo (bonita vista en el cerro y buen grupo de teatro callejero presentándose). Al volver, vimos que en un bar que está al lado del hostal todavía cantaba alguien como parte del "show". Al entrar a la habitación, notamos que el "sonido" del cantante llegaba claramente hasta ahí. Intentamos dormir, pero era mucho el volumen y además estaba borracho y por consecuencia, muy desafinado. Medio dormíamos, medio nos despertábamos, pero lo peor fue cuando en plena madrugada las personas a cargo del aseo del hostal se pusieron a barrer la habitación junto a la nuestra. Incluyendo arrastrar las camas, pasar escobas por el borde de las ventanas que daban a nuestra pieza y para colmo, barriendo las escaleras del lugar con una escoba que golpeaba contra las barandas de metal haciendo un ruido que se aumentaba por el vacío del lugar. En definitiva. No dormimos prácticamente nada. Cero criterio de los o las administradoras. Y por supuesto, nadie advierte que al lado hay un bar que mantiene abierto durante toda la noche con borrachos cantando amplificados. Moraleja: No se dejen engañar por las apariencias.
