Chifa Dragon Palacio Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Baños de Agua Santa

We stumbled upon this restaurant on a rainy night hoping to take a break from local cuisine after a week long stay in Ecuador and I’m so glad we did. International food in Banos is still in the pubescent stages but if you’re looking for American Chinese/Latin American Chinese style fried rice this is the place. For my husband who grew up in a Chinese American restaurant, this was his comfort food.

Ecuadorian food tends to lean towards meats cooked longer which can come off as dry to the American palate. Just a preference that I’ve noticed in several Latin cuisines so the super tender chicken and shrimp we had were a welcomed change and the fried rice had that wonderful taste that only food cooked in woks under a hot flame can generate. If you’re a noodle aficionado then I would pass on the noodle dishes as I don’t think they have access to the kind of noodles you’d find in big cities of the world but any fried rice combination is a tasty,...

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Portions are huge so keep that in mind. We got a half portion of noodles/fried rice which came on the same plate but was enough for a full meal. I got sweet and sour chicken which was nice but practically had a full pineapple cut in slices. Chips were really good.
