We stayed in Hotel Jira for 2 days in July 2014. One concern I had initially was that no one ever returned my call, after I left several messages regarding questions I had about my reservation. So I was already on guard about how the experience would be. The hotel was a little south from the central part of Guayaquil, but it was near the Malecon and Historic District, which was nice. The room was very standard, but it was clean, comfortable and we felt that it was pretty secure hostel. We had a little trouble with the shower door not closing all the way. As a result, a lot of water got on the bathroom floor and some flowed into the bedroom. We used the white hotel towel to soak it up, and after looking at the towel, we were expecting it to be dirty from being wiped across the floor. To our surprise, the only thing on the towel was water. It was spotless! I don't even think my floors at home could stand up to this! So we were happy about the cleanliness. Also, I inquired about the time for breakfast the night before. I assumed the hotel manager remembered, as he knocked on our door twice after we didn't answer the first time to notify us of breakfast so we wouldn't miss it. At most hotels, if you miss breakfast, that's on you! The staff were very helpful to call taxis for us and allowed us to keep our luggage in the room, even after check out until we returned from a late lunch. I would return to Hotel Jira and would recommend...
Read moreStayed in a double room for one night as a quick stopover. Hotel overall very clean. On a noisy road which is probably the same throughout the city centre so ear plugs are handy. No air con in our room as we had the cheapest room but a big fan and the large windows could be opened up, it was still stuffy but fine. Charged $6 in a taxi from the airport. I would definitely stay here again.||The lady on reception was friendly (a little English spoken) and a guy helped us carry up our bags up a few flights of stairs as no lift.||Breakfast which was eggs, a croissant, coffee and juice was included between 8-10am and check out was handy being not until 12 so we had time for a walk after breakfast before checking out. ||It's a 2 minute walk to the riverfront and from there you can turn left and walk all the way to Cerro Santa Ana taking in the sights...
Read moreStayed here two nights, and really enjoyed it. The staff are very friendly and gave us good advice on places to check out in Guayaquil. It is well situated near the waterfront and centre of town, and is a cheap taxi ride from the airport/bus terminal. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, the bathroom clean, and it had 12 power points! (just in case you're travelling with every appliance you own). The included breakfast was pretty good as far as basic South American breakfasts go. The only drawback was we didn't have a window in our room, but then I doubt many people are staying much longer than a few days in Guayaquil so it wasn't an issue for...
