The smell of bleach let me know that the place was sanitized, but it became overwhelming and gave me a headache. I thought it would go away, but the smell lingered all through the night into the morning. My air purifier was no help. It is a newer building which is nice...less likely to have issues. The decor is not bad for Ecuadorian standards. More modern than a lot of places. The chemical smell as well as the noise prevented me from sleeping well. Staff was not very friendly, but that seems common. They did however help us out by locking up our luggage for the day until we left for the airport. I didn't care for the breakfast. Free breakfast was choice of eggs, a ham and cheese sandwich, juice, and instant coffee or hot tea. My scrambled eggs were too runny. The meat in the sandwich had an odd taste, not like real ham. The bread was good, seemed fresh. This hotel was a last-minute Choice after the one I had booked turned out to be disgusting. Locals suggested this place. I looked over everything and didn't see anything alarming in concerned with cleanliness. There was no air conditioner or heater in the room. This was not a big issue, but I did get a little cold in the early morning. I am used to the Texas heat so it may not be cold for others. I would rate this hotel higher if they were to lay off the chemicals or maybe switch to a natural cleaner. On a side note there was a salon directly across the street, I can't remember the name, but the ladies were very friendly and I enjoyed a...
Read moreI don't seem to have much luck with hotels near what next month will be the old airport so in that way, I'm glad to see the old airport go away. I've talked to some taxi drivers and they're licking their chops over the $30 taxi fare they're going to charge to travel form the new airport into Quito, but I digress.||||After my nightmare with another hotel near the Quito airport, I decided to try the Tiwintza. ||||We stayed here on the 7th of January to catch an early flight to Guayaquil and our room fronted the street. Late into the night there was some kind of road work going on and it was very difficult to get any sleep.||||We stayed here again on the 14th so I could catch my early flight to the States the next day and we were given an interior room off the street. Trust me, I would rather deal with the street noise than the horrendous racket we tried to sleep through this night.||||The family living there is up late with kids running and screaming all over the place, the television in the lobby blasts all night and there were two very active dogs on a terrace about 20' from our window.||||Unbelievable!||||The only consolation is that this hotel will be gone once the airport moves and travelers won't have to learn about this place first hand.||||If you want to sleep, find someplace besides the...
Read moreI have stayed in many hotels in this area near the airport (very convenient if you are flying in or out) and this one is by far the best. It is quiet and has all the things you would expect of first rate hotel but never get at this price (only $28 for a single). It has hot water, sparkling clean rooms, cable, comfortable beds, plenty of pillows, chairs, towels, soap, phones in the rooms, free internet, free hot breakfast with juice, eggs, coffee, toast. Also it is quieter than others in the area so you can actually get some sleep! You just don´t find these things at this price typically. I also think it is a plus to be a bit out of town center -- there are lots of pickpockets in new town and old town. Here you can safely leave your things, walk across the street to the trolebus and in 10 minutes be downtown with just the few things you...
