I stayed with my family (group of five) at Hostal Riviera Sucre at the beginning of March 2025. We all had a great experience!
When I saw the reviews and pictures Of this hotel, it caught my attention and set a pretty high bar in terms of expectations. All what I can say is that it met them and surpassed them. All the good reviews are true.
Since the time when we called to ask questions and make the reservation, to our arrival, during our stay and even after, the staff was super friendly, proactive and helpful. It was a delight to meet them and interact with them during our stay. Even after we checked out. It happened that my daughter forgot her sunglasses in the room. They reached super fast to jet us know they found them have them for us at reception.
We loved the setting of an old colonial house, with its gardens, courtyards and fountains (my daughter loved the hammocks!).
The rooms were not luxurious, but had all the comforts and necessities, and were very nicely decorated, also following the theme of property. We loved the Otavalo blankets and small details to build on the colonial vibes.
Perhaps the only improvement I can think of would be to have different firmness of pillows in the rooms. However they were available on request.
One afternoon/night there were warnings of rain and the staff handed us umbrellas in case it rained. They were very useful. Then at our return they turned on the wood fireplace in the games room. It was a great end for an enjoyable day!
Another highlight was the quality of the included breakfast. It was delicious! Traditional oven baked bread, tasty fruit cups with yogurt and granola, eggs cooked to perfection, nice fresh coffee, tea and pitchers of wild berries juice. It was also lovely to meet one of the cooks who came in person to deliver an extra glass of juice for my daughter, and proceeded to explain how the berries were collected, cooked and preserved to make the juice. What else can I say.
The Hostel Riviera Sucre is a hidden gem in Otavalo. I’m definitely staying here the the next time we are in town. I recommend it even over some more expensive...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as part of an organised tour. The communal areas are more of what you'd expect in a hostel, but the rooms were definitely more like a hotel. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and most of them spoke good English. The wifi was pretty good in all areas. The communal areas were lovely, there was a courtyard in the middle and some enclosed gardens. It felt like a haven in the middle of the city.||My room was a good size, there was an entrance way almost like a foyer, with the bedroom and bathroom coming off that. The bed was large and comfortable with lots of layers as it does get cold in Otavalo at night. I don't think the hotel had central heating, but there was a portable heater in my room. The bathroom was ok, the door was in an awkward position but it was workable. There was a shower but no bath tub, the hot water was mostly ok.||Breakfast was simple but sufficient. There was tea and coffee, nice bread rolls with butter and jam, juice, and they asked you how you wanted your eggs (you could have fruit if you didn't want eggs).||I got laundry done during my stay, it was cheap and done well.||Overall a great stay, it's definitely not luxurious but very quaint and charming, has a good location in the city centre but still manages to be very...
Read moreWe had the room 20 which has it's own private terrasse with a view on the C volcano (it was very cloudy so we did not see it entirely but still...). We were very impressed with this. The room was very clean and warm and the bed was extremely comfortable. Fredy was very accomodating also and agreed to keep our luggage for the day after the checkout since we left for the airport at n=ight around 7 pm. We could also use a shower just before leaving at night, which was a nice touch. The staff (2 young men) and Freddy were all very nice and made us feel at ease. You can't go wrong with this hotel. It was recommended to us by our driver and we would come back for sure.||||The shower in our room functionned awckwadrly and we lacked hot water for a couple of minutes each time but overall not a big deal. Also there was not fruits served for breakfast which was a bit disapointing but the fresh juice was excellent so again,...
