I came here for a 3 night stay. I have been to Ecuador countless times in the last 30 years, including Otavalo which is a MUST see for anyone visiting Ecuador. This hotel is 100% remodeled but kept its Otavaleño flair; the woodwork, the exposed stone and brick, the columns and tile - all represent the historic and magical city and its surroundings- but it had every modern amenity that blended seeminglessly with its history. The breakfast is first class as is their lunch and dinner. The food is truly a culinary experience highlighting the native food of the region . The bathroom is modern and the room, bed (so comfortable!), and decor truly spectacular. The hotel is within walking distance to all the local sites including the Plaza de Ponchos. When you walk into the hotel you feel like you are walking into a mansion home. Every corner. Every painting. Every piece of furniture - perfect. It’s almost like a fairy tale. But - it was the service that will ensure I return many times. Kevin at the Reception Desk seemed to always be available day and night and was so attentive; Sisa was wonderful also at Reception. Sisa, our room attendant, kept our room perfect day and night with so many special touches including local delicious surprises each night. Franklin was our server in the restaurant and provided outside food recommendations and service. Stay here! You will never want to leave! I...
Read moreThis is the best New Year's celebration I have ever had, and believe me, I have traveled. The service is extraordinary from the minute you set foot in the hotel. The rooms are carefully decorated with beautiful art (beds and pillows are perfect). The entire hotel is a collector's dream filled with amazing sculptures, paintings by world class artists, and antiques. New Year's Eve started with an Incan ceremony that was sublime. Candles, roses, Andean music, and prayers in Quechua. From then after, every minute was planned and filled with details. Each of us received a paper bag with an "Año Viejo", grapes, and more. Dinner was AMAZING. A Banda de Pueblo stormed in the dinning hall and in a matter of a few minutes we were all dancing. Ecuadoreans have the perfect spirit and the manager was all over the place making sure everyone had what they needed and smiling. It's awesome to see manager and staff smiling and enjoying their work. The waiters and staff are well trained and so kind. Will definitely travel back here for another new year's...
Read moreThe only place I’ve stayed in this entire country that does NOT have bugs... I have had to leave 4 different places because of problems, and then go to Hotel Otavalo to feel comfortable and finally sleep. They literally saved me when I had to run out of another hotel at 5am. They have laundry service with a real dryer. This is the only Place I have found that is up to US standards of cleanliness and it’s luxurious too. I would live there. It’s the only place I didn’t feel freezing cold at night. Their breakfast is amazing. And if hotel otavalo did not exist I would have left Ecuador already. Also if you don’t want city noise they have quiet rooms. A small price to pay to actually sleep with the lights off and feel clean. However, they did serve me raw chicken. Glad I...
