I've been caveating all my Galapagos reviews with a note that I booked a 9-day tour with no knowledge of the specific hotels or a breakdown of the hotel room rates as part of the overall package, so I did not have any preconceived notions or expectations about the lodging. ||||That being said, I was with a group of 9 and we had very different experiences at this hotel. My boyfriend & I definitely got lucky with a great room, but another couple had a terrible ant problem in their room, so it's not consistent.||||PROS: if you get room with a beachfront view, it's awesome (we were in #4); large/comfortable bed; wifi (although it didn't work in the rooms - only in the common area); hammocks||||CONS: lousy water pressure in the shower (and don't expect hot water); no breakfast or any amenities on-site (except for a water jug you can use to refill water bottles); service is pretty much non-existent if you need something; the only way to access this hotel is through sand, so expect sandy feet all the time!||||If you have options, there were a lot of other hotels along the beach that had a lot more amenities and some really cool...
Read moreOur Red Mangrove tour of the Galapagos Islands was for four nights on three different islands (two on Santa Cruz, one on Floreana and one on Isabela). While we stayed at the Red Mangrove on both occasions on Santa Cruz, for Floreana and Isabela we got bumped to other (lesser) facilities nearby without explanation or prior notice. Casa Sol on Isabela was just down the beach from the Red Mangrove Lodge where we went for our meals and to meet our tour guide. We were on the second floor with a huge picture window overlooking the beach which was beautiful – a better view than the Lodge which is single storied and sheltered from the beach by trees. Not as luxurious as the Lodge (we got a peak at one of the rooms) but not too bad – about 3 star level. No restaurant or shop to buy any supplies, although free drinking water is on tap in the reception area, and no room service. Cannot comment on proximity to other attractions, as we did not have time to explore the island outside of our tour, although we did take a walk to the pier just along the beach after dinner. ...
Read moreI spent 3 nights in this lovely hotel. I had a beautiful room with sea view. The hotel belongs to the Equatorian artist Mauricio Cobo who has decorated the rooms of his hotel with his paintings which gives them a special charm. He also made beautiful mosaics on the paths around the building. The room was spacious, the bed excellent. it has a large window from which you have a gorgeous view of the beach and the sea. The bathroom is also large, there is a good shower with hot water. You can use the refrigerator in Mauricio's kitchen which is very nice in this heat. I also very much enjoyed lying in one of the hammocks on the beach side of the hotel. Very quiet location. There are good restaurants a few walking minutes from the hotel. I especially recommend Bello Puerto Restaurant, very good value and excellent food, just 3 walking minutes away. The hotel is very good value too especially if you book it there instead of through...
