If you have a low budget, then this hotel is for you!
The hotel was not as I expected. The staff are polite, but unprofessional and usually absent. I arrived in Siwa at 9:30 am on a Friday, but I found it very dusty and empty. No one was available at the reception. Were they asleep? On holiday?
I called the receptionist, and the young man told me to take the room key from the counter. Upon entering the room, it was extremely dusty, dirty and the AC was broken.
I complained and changed rooms, but it was equally dirty and very dusty. I asked him to clean the room and change the bed sheets.
The bathroom was completely lacking in toilet paper and soap. When I requested these items, he said when the owner comes, he would take money from him to buy the toiletries—Two or three reminders later, we finally received one very small toilet paper roll for two adult guests. Were they afraid that we would poop too much? I asked for the internet, but it seems that they hadn’t paid the bill. I reminded him, but still no internet.
The hotel entrance was still very dusty and dirty, and no one was on duty to receive guests or answer guest questions.
One night, I woke up to very loud voices from a fight. Male guests in the next room were fighting and smoking. I didn’t bother to complain because neither the owner nor the worker was present to shut them up. That made me really mad. I didn’t get enough sleep that day.
On the last day, I finally found the owner and the worker cleaning the hotel entrance and stairs! If only they had done this BEFORE our arrival!!!
The hotel itself has the potential to always be full of guests, but the hotel managers don’t fully understand the basics of what is required to keep guests happy.
The hotel rooftop offers a lovely view of the town square. The Siwi people themselves are nice and very polite.
The room is cluttered and small with a over sized closet and a mini fridge. It is better to remove the closet, especially since hangers are nowhere to be found inside. Instead, you will see heavy blankets.
The location is perfect, but Siwa is not the quiet place it used to be. So, I don’t recommend to stay in the town center. The street noise will wake you up daily.
In a nutshell, this place is for a super low budget traveler who is used to Cairo’s cacophony, but is patient and wants to be able to buy things easily from nearby shops. I don’t think i will return again, but I would recommend the hotel for other travelers who have these aforementioned criteria.
Best of luck to the hotel and to...
