مطعم علي عليوة للمشويات — Restaurant in Matruh

I have never given a worse review than this in my life.

We ordered 1/2 kg of meat and we got 1/4 kg. I know some arabic so he asked me if we want 1/4 for which I replied no, half a kilo and I pointed at the food which was also in arabic. But the worst thing they still didnt bring 1/2 kg but 1/4 kg.

I was so pissed off.

The bread was from yesterday, completely dry and chewy with an old like texture.

The first 1/4 of the meat wasnt bad but then the second 1/4 was so burnt I couldnt understand. Also we paid 480 L.E.

Tahini sauce was old, probably served from yesterday but no one bought it.

It was like there was a different tahini sauce in the same bowl before, just stuck to the sides and dry, it was so old.

Vegetables werent fresh AT ALL! They were very very dry with no color at all.

Try ABDOU restaurant or any one. Just dont go the the side of town where this...

The place is a spacious open air dining area, although they have private rustic dining rooms too, where you sit on the ground and take a load off while eating. They offer poultry slow cooked in an underground fire pit. The meat just falls off the bone, and it is absolutely delicious. The chicken is good, but the duck is really one of a kind. My advice? Get the duck. They also offer their own version of "Molokhia" (Nalta Jute), which tastes like nothing I have ever tasted. Heavenly. Their toilets...

I had an extremely disappointing experience at مطعم علي عليوة للمشويات. The quality of the food was shockingly bad — the meat was dry, tasteless, and clearly not fresh. This place has an undeserved reputation, and I regret trusting the hype. To make matters worse, I paid 2000 EGP for this disaster of a meal, only to throw most of it in the garbage.
