We got used to a lot of things and found out that some attributes, some I criticized, don't affect us that much. However, I have to write this addition. Today, the hotel management invited us and personally asked about the things that bother us, we got relevant answers. I was extremely surprised by the approach, when the management tried very hard to adjust our opinion about the room, about the hotel. They said that they would immediately call the repairman for technical shortcomings. That they know about the unsuitable door and that they will solve it with the reconstruction. The hotel was bought from the original owner and in some ways they are still trying to achieve the high quality that we know from other picklabatros hotels. In short, I am happy that the management is helpful and that they are trying to make the guest satisfied. The manager wrote down all my suggestions and I believe that they will take them into consideration. As an apology, weve got a fruit bowl on our room and individual care. I have no words. Next time, only Pickalbatros. I believe they still have a lot of work ahead of them, but they are heading in the right direction.|| ORIGINAL REVIEW: We know and appreciate Pickalbatros, he has always been a guarantee of quality for us. I normally write great reviews. We appreciate that the people offering the service are not annoying, it is always beautifully clean and we are satisfied with the food. Here at Sands/Oasis I would say the food has the smallest selection, but the best flavour. Only two restaurants right next to each other, both identical. Immediately upon arrival we requested a better room. What we got was terrible, you have to control the air conditioning manually, it does not turn off by itself, it makes noise and cannot cool down. The toilet often does not flush, there is no door to the toilet, only a few times, it is great for a romantic stay when a pharaoh visits you. We paid for a 9-year-old child and they did not get a bed for him, only on request. Otherwise he would probably sleep in a suitcase holder. The equipment is very old and ugly. Sometimes the heat does not flow in the shower. The accommodation was comparable in quality to low cost Tunisia (one resort), but in price to the perfect Albatros Sea World. The staff does whatever they want and is reluctant to even have a bigger disco. They choose disco and never come back. Another waiter comes and expects disco. Drink in 1dl glasses or in a cup that is as thin as a micro-thin bag. Beach... Huge low tide often, one pier unusable, constant red flag. The other not a great experience, coral 95 percent dead. At Sands the sea is murky, huge waves, stones. At the Palace the beach is nicer, at the pier yellow, you can snorkel, but also little water from the beach, nevertheless nice, without stones. The pools need reconstruction (dangerous shortcomings). Extremely few showers. All services here are more for show than for pleasure. It's a short distance to snorkel in Abu Dabbab (34 minutes by Uber) we haven't been yet, they promised that snorkeling is nice here. Wifi works great throughout the hotel. Aquapark is beautiful, big gaps between the water slides, you can't go without a mat. If you want to spend whole days in the aquapark, be aware that you won't be able to stretch out there, there are only chairs and umbrellas, no sunbeds. The bars further from the reception tragically don't handle drinking well, the beer is good. The gin and tonic is comparable to water for a car wash. We will never go here again and for the money we warn others. Try our most popular beach albatros hurghada or...
Read moreThe good, the bad and the worst. We booked hotel Pickalbatros Oasis for two weeks but luckily could change hotel after a few days. The good news first: The hotel staff is very friendly and we could upgrade to a nice room for an extra charge. The hotel also offers free WIFI in the rooms, which most hotels in Egypt don’t. The food selection is huge and all looks amazing but the food has not much taste, probably because of food quality (and we compare this to other hotels in the same area). Downside is the crowd that makes all dining experience uncomfortable because this whole hotel complex is huge and so many guests for a relatively small area. There are some restaurants to choose from but we experienced the same. The gym is ok and also staff there very friendly. The bad: There is a constant beat of sound (techno/beat) in dining area and during the days at the pools. If someone like us does not like this music style, it bothers a lot. We wanted to spend a lot of time in the water snorkeling but this is very limited. If there is stronger wind, and there is almost always wind, the red flag goes up and no access from the jetties. Not much the hotel can do about this because it is for safety reason but booking this particular hotel with focus on snorkeling is not the best choice. The worst: the hotel only has plastic water bottles and no water refill stations. Also provides little shampoo/body wash plastic tubes and if you add this all up, it is a HUGE amount of trash that could be prevented easily. Reason why it is extremely important to care about the environment is because a lot of the trash ends up on land flying around, being burned or ends up in the ocean. The hotel area is big but not so much plant variety and no birds or insects. This may please many guests but you have to keep in mind hat they spray tons of toxic insecticides. We have seen this practice in a few hotels in the area but we also know of hotels that don’t do that and have a wonderful garden. We would definitely only choose hotels that have water refill stations and do not spray insecticides. As guests we are consumers and we decide, it really can make a difference what choice we make. A hotel like this one could save 5000+plastic bottles per day!!! if they would ban the plastic bottles. The worst experienced we had with this hotel was at the onsite dive-center (dive-club). They sold us on purpose another excursion trip than we had discussed and booked and wanted more money in the beginning. Here is a brief summary: We talked to the dive center to a few people over two days and explained that we wanted to book a boat trip from Hamata port but only if this would be a dolphin trip and with respectful approach for the animals. We made clear that we would not want to book a tour where dolphins/animals get disturbed and chased. To see wild dolphins is never guaranteed and we fully understand that. Even one of the bosses at the dive center explained that this would be the dolphin trip we can book and also swim with the dolphins (wild dolphins). He first wanted to charge $85 but probably normal to discuss the price and finally get the price that everyone pays. Along the way many other people got on the small bus and also a tour guide. The tour guide nor the driver talked to anyone during the drive and they were not motivated at all. Ok, maybe ramadan has an influence on this but everywhere else we had good experiences with staff. Once we boarded the boat and left the harbor, the guide gave a briefing but never mentioned the dolphins. So when we asked about the dolphins, he said that we were on the wrong trip, this had nothing to do with dolphins. He admitted that there are dolphin tours but not that one. We were unable to disembark the boat and had to go along the whole day. Despite contacting the dive club and also the hotel and requested a refund we never heard anything back and also did not get reimbursed. What we noticed during that trip is that there were a lot of violation and these practices exactly destroy the beauty of the marine...
Read moreIn late October 2023, we visited Pickalbatros Oasis in Port Ghalib, and we can't say anything other than we had an amazing vacation. The resort consists of three sections, with Oasis and Sands essentially forming one resort.
The reception was very friendly, and due to our late arrival (23.30h), we were first taken to the restaurant where we could still enjoy a "Late Dinner"... which we were certainly looking forward to after our journey. After having a meal, we checked in and were escorted to our rooms. The rooms were spacious, and what immediately stood out was that everything was clean!
After a good night's sleep, the next morning, we decided to explore and figure out how everything worked. We had breakfast at the "Souq Al Hana" restaurant, where you could find absolutely everything. The buffet was beautifully laid out, and you lacked nothing. There was an abundance of staff, all very friendly, and we were warmly welcomed by Mohamed (Mou Mou).
The resort features three large pools, one of which was the lagoon – an enormous saltwater lagoon where you could relax around on the sunbeds. The second large pool was right in front of the resort's reception, and here too, there were plenty of sunbeds. The towel service was located to the left of the pool, and the employees there were also very friendly. We had a lot of laughs with Haitham and had some serious conversations as well.
In the Sands section, there was a third pool and the "Lazy River." It's indeed a lazy river because there's no current, and you have to create it yourself :-)
The resort has various bars where you can get anything you desire, and it's well organized, with very friendly staff once again. The two à la carte restaurants can be reserved at set times, and they are definitely worth it. Be sure to visit the "Tagine" restaurant to savor the Egyptian and Eastern cuisine.
The beach is just a stone's throw away, and once again, there are plenty of sunbeds and parasols. You can easily reach the beautiful coral reef via the two piers. By taking the stairs, you can step right into the water, and as soon as you put your head underwater, you enter a stunning underwater world. This is hard to describe and must be experienced firsthand. It's truly breathtaking.
Entertainment is available every day, and there are plenty of activities to choose from. The team will definitely approach you to see if you'd like to join in, but they're not pushy. We had a lot of fun with various activities and had many laughs with everyone. Thank you, 'Angel,' for your spontaneous presence and good luck with your Aunt.
Especially during the first few days at the resort, you'll be approached regularly to book activities/excursions. Some people find this annoying, but it's part of the experience. We booked several excursions, and all of them were beautiful. I recommend taking a boat trip for snorkeling/diving (Dive Club diving center) – there are different options to suit your preferences. The quad safari was also fantastic, and we booked it twice. Thank you, Adam from Remal Safari.
A visit to the neighboring port and village is definitely worthwhile, especially in the evenings when there's a lot to see, and various large ships arrive at the harbor.
In summary, it's more than worth it to book your vacation at Pickalbatros Oasis/Sands. Friendly people, a beautiful coral reef, impeccable cleanliness (truly everywhere), a large but manageable resort.
Our special thanks go out to the serving staff. Mou Mou, thank you for reserving a table for our last dinner at the resort. The service at the large pool bar, thank you for the delicious 'small glass' beers and cocktails you made for us. Clean beach towels every day – thank you, guys, and Haitham, we hope to meet you again soon.
Finally, I want to emphasize that as a guest at a resort, you should not abuse it. Show respect to the people who work there and to other guests, and you'll receive so much in return.
Once again, thank you very much, and we'll certainly see you...
