I'm writing this review because if any of you are anything like me, you like to do thorough research before you spend your hard earned money. I want to disclose that I am Salvadoran, and go to El Salvador at least once a year. I have stayed in another hotel not too far off (Boca Olas) and have had an amazing stay there but this time was looking for something a little different, and more luxurious. I spoke to reception about the room, and what is offered including the hours multiple times before I booked. We stayed within the Tortuga Suite, and yes there was a few things in which the room lacked but overall, it was an amazing stay. Whilst doing my research, one thing I kept looking at was the pictures of the suite to ensure that room is what I wanted and MY LORD, the pictures do not do the suite or hotel justice. It is absolutely gorgeous. It is a fairly small hotel, and as far as we could tell our room was the largest. However, their small size allows for the hotel to much quieter and personal. The staff is able to direct more of their energy and focus to the guests that are there and it is truly appreciated. The restaurant was alright, nothing out of the world and I do agree with prior reviews of limited options for breakfast. Some items in their menu are much better than others so keep that in mind. As far as the staff went, they are very friendly and helpful - however, as far as we can tell they did not speak english which caught me off guard given that this is a luxurious hotel, and a very toruisty spot. We were fluent in spanish though so it did not bother us. The room was large but simple, the bathroom was large as well but it seem like the shower tiles did need a bit of an update. Within the bathroom, no shampoo or conditioner was given only a bar of soap, and shower gel. There is no telephone within the room to call reception as well which is something that bothered me given that each time we needed something we would have to walk to reception, the restaurant, etc. I'm not sure if this is because of covid, which if it is - it is understandable. The floor tile in the room does get slippery very quickly so you have to be very careful where you step especially after using the jacuzzi. The jacuzzi did have hot water and was on the balcony so at night it is a wonderful view. If you are going during the winter month, the beach will not be accessible and the waves will be hitting the cliffside at night so be forewarned. I would say it is not handicap accessible if you are in the suites since there are many stairs.
OVERALL, the cons are things that I personally could overlook especially for the pros. VERY BEAUTIFUL HOTEL. WOULD RECOMMEND. I WILL DEFINITELY BE GOING BACK, AND OF COURSE TO MY...
Read moreWe stayed for 8 nights here the first week of March 2024. We stayed in the Ocean Suite (1 king bed + another large twin for our 4 year old daughter). The room was fabulous and we had an unbelievable view! We did have key issues twice but both times it was remedied right away with full attention - which we appreciated. I also wanted to write a review because I do wish the info I'm about to give was offered before we stayed here.
We did really LOVE the hotel. Quaint and super quiet, landscaping is really nicely done. Staff was always extremely friendly to us - we loved Joel and by the end of our stay - he knew our order and had it ready for us before we'd even sit down....that is really amazing service IMO. We loved both of the pools as well and the poolside service by the team is wonderful.
The beach is beautiful, BUT you can only access it 2 times - during low tide and that only lasts for about an hour. So, this is not a beach hotel - keep that in mind if you want a lot of beach time.
It's really not walkable to other things. There are a few other hotels nearby but this hotel is also tucked way back off of the road so there's just not a lot to walk to easily. El Tunco beach is the closest, and we did walk there twice (we are early 40's and exercise/fit) and even in March it was super hot and humid and about a mile to the El Tunco area....so a good 15/20 minute walk where you do have to walk on the main highway road for a few minutes (with just a bike sized shoulder to walk on a 2 lane road). That was sketchy.... And it's not easy to just "call an Uber" or taxi IMO. Getting to that next.
We sadly don't speak Spanish - my husband knows more than I do so we could kind of get by but it definitely was a small hinderance. I'm assuming IF we did and could easily communicate - calling on a taxi would have been much easier for us. But if you want ANY sort of groceries, you'll have to get to El Tunco and back and walking with bags on the crazy road wasn't ideal... We loved the hotel and how quiet it was but we do kind of wish we were closer to "things"...especially because we were there for 8 nights.
Overall this is a gorgeous hotel with super friendly staff. The food was very good (and we ate here a ton because of what I mentioned above). I would say for a romantic, quiet getaway or honeymoon - perfect. My 4 year old definitely was getting bored since this didn't really have the family vibe or many other kids - which can also be fabulous....if you don't have your kid with you. Ha! For a romantic getaway (kidless), we'd definitely...
Read moreThe serving staff, security staff & Dolores were all a very nice and attentive. The views were also beautiful. It was an overall great location, only about a 10m walk to El Tunco.
The service, however, was extremely dissatisfying. We felt very judged and not welcome on various occasions, whether it was asking for toilet paper or asking for general directions. Additionally, I thought it was very odd that the cleaning staff knocked on our door at 830 am to clean our room (morning after check in) and were unable to come back later in the day. I was exhausted from my flight and didn’t want to leave the room at 830am so as a result didn’t get my room cleaned, despite wanting it cleaned. They didn’t come back again for the next 3 days. Two situations specifically had me very upset also. They were very adamant about the fact that there were no taxis in the area except for the taxi driver they personally recommend. He was not available for us on multiple occasions. When asking for recommendations, they had none. (After many failed attempts of taxi requests from them, we ended up asking a server for a recommendation and he was able to get us someone instantly). Anyway, my friends and I were stranded 40m away and I whatsapped them asking for them to help us get a ride. They said they were calling a taxi and asked for the address. After me asking multiple times for an update, and 1.5 hours later, they finally said sorry he can’t. I shouldn’t have had to beg for them to tell me an update. 2) We asked the front desk for advice about going to el Tamanique. She said since their tour had already gone at 8 am, we couldn’t go. & That 11:30 am was way too late to go. We spoke to a few other townspeople that day, and all of them were very confused and recommended we go anytime. We got a taxi to the tourism center in Tamanique at 1 pm and it was fabulous. Thank god we didn’t listen to the lady at the front desk at Fallarones.
Overall, we were displeased and would not stay there again. We actually spent a lot of our time at Balance surf retreat in El tunco & I would recommend that place to absolutely anyone due to great...
