We spent 5 nights in April in a one-bedroom apartment "with sea view" and loved every minute of our stay. The view looked out over the harbor. In summer, it would be a lively scene with many boats. Even in the off season, it was fun to see some boats chugging past. These are NOT the huge cruise ships that dock on the other side of the island--just pleasure boats, plus the awesome ice breaking boats that dock a little farther down the shore. The apartment was large, clean, bright and airy, with nice furnishings and pretty decor. We heard absolutely no sounds from neighbors or the street outside. The lovely owner responded immediately to email questions and was there to greet us. There's a combination washer/dryer which we did not use. The fully stocked kitchen included a dishwasher--and detergent for it! Also there were common cooking staples like oil and spices, so to put together a meal we just walked a few minutes to the supermarket, open until 11pm. The residential neighborhood is lovely and quiet, with beautiful Art Nouveau buildings. Tram 4 stops a couple of short blocks away, and whisked us to the compact center of Helsinki in a few minutes. It was also an easy pretty walk, maybe 20 scenic minutes. A lovely...
Read moreWe stayed in one of the 4-person units that Essexhomes had. It was a perfect choice for the 3 day stay we had. Our apartment was in Laivastokatu and had a lovely view, facing the sea. Tho owner, Seija gave us tips on eating and buying groceries in Katajanokka and left us a dossier with directions, numbers and opening hours. ||||The apartment itself was airy and bright with plenty of natural light and well sized rooms. The kitchen was small but well equipped with tea, coffee, spices, etc. There were several restaurants nearby (two of them - Wellamo and Sipuli were very good) plus two supermarkets. The Market Square and Market Hall (lots of food) were also an near (about 10 minutes). ||||The location was very good in other ways too. Katajanokka is walkable from most places (though quite a long walk to Hietalahti and the National Museum). And it was quiet, despite being close to the city. Essexhomes is an easy 10 minute walk from the Viking Line ferry terminal if you arrive or leave that way.||||Overall, a great place to stay in while in Helsinki. Would...
Read moreJust returned from a 4 night stay here and loved it. From the initial introduction from Seija it was clear we made a great choice. Lovely location amongst the Art Deco buildings and only a few minutes walk from the number 4 tram which goes within a 100 metres of the central station. It is only a pleasurable 10 minute walk to the harbour centre.||The accommodation has a new lift which is just as well as humping the suitcases up 3 flights of stairs would have been a chore, but easy with a lift. It is amazingly quiet even with the windows open at night. The shower is great with plenty of pressure and all other facilities you would expect are available including iron and board, washing machine and dishwasher.||Big rooms with high ceilings and comfy bed. ||Lovely Nepalese restaurant right opposite and you get 15% off voucher from apartment. Would definitely recommend and will stay there again if visiting this...
