Swaad: A Sizzling Adventure for the Taste Buds
Swaad, meaning "taste" in Hindi, lives up to its name with a unique take on Indian cuisine. This Helsinki hotspot isn't your average curry house. They describe themselves as "Finland's first High-Tech Indian Bistro," and that translates to innovative dishes that combine tradition with a modern twist. The star of the show here is undoubtedly their experimental sizzler section. Sizzlers are typically Indian platters served on a sizzling hot plate, keeping the dish warm and infusing it with a smoky aroma. Swaad takes this concept and runs with it, offering a variety of exciting options. Unfortunately, online menus don't usually detail the specifics of the sizzlers, but here's what you can expect based on their website description:
High-Quality Ingredients: Swaad prides itself on using fresh, flavorful ingredients and caters to various dietary needs. Expect a focus on vibrant spices alongside healthy options.
Creative Flair: The "experimental" in "experimental sizzlers" hints at the unexpected. They might feature interesting protein choices, unique flavor combinations, or even playful presentations.
Sizzling Service: The hot plate experience adds a touch of excitement to your meal. Imagine the dish arriving with a satisfying sizzle, filling the air with enticing aromas.
While I can't give you a specific dish recommendation, here's how to approach your sizzler selection:
Consider your protein preference: They likely offer vegetarian, chicken, lamb, or seafood options.
Think about spice level: Indian food is known for its spice, but Swaad caters to all palates. If you're unsure, ask your server for guidance.
Embrace the adventure! That's the beauty of the experimental sizzlers. Be open to trying something new and exciting.
Swad offers more than just sizzlers, with a delicious selection of curries, biryanis, and tandoori dishes. But for a truly unique Helsinki dining experience, venture into the sizzling world of their experimental sizzlers. You won't be disappointed! Additional Tips:
Be sure to make a reservation, especially on weekends, as Swaad is a popular spot.
They have a bar menu, so you can pair your meal with a refreshing cocktail or a traditional Indian beverage like lassi.
If you have any dietary restrictions, let the staff know, and they'll be happy to accommodate you.

Read moreA Disappointing Experience with Overrated hype After hearing glowing reviews about this restaurant, I had high expectations, but what I encountered was nothing short of disappointing. The food was, at best, below average. The starters arrived completely devoid of salt, a basic culinary necessity. Despite ordering two vegetarian dishes, we were served just one portion of naan, which felt incredibly stingy. The most frustrating part of the evening was the agonizing wait—over 90 minutes—and still, no food on the table. None of the dishes ordered were complex or made-to-order, yet the kitchen seemed incapable of delivering in a timely manner. The service was abysmal, with staff seemingly oblivious to the growing frustration of not just our table, but other guests around us as well. When the food finally did arrive, the portion sizes were shockingly small for the price—€18.50 for a serving that wouldn’t satisfy a small appetite. Compared to other restaurants in the area, this place offers neither value nor quality. If you're looking for an exercise in patience and disappointment, this restaurant delivers...
Read moreHave to admit the food was good, although I didn't get the dish I ordered. Apparently they never even had lamb, so for whatever reason I got a paneer dish.
However, I've never experienced worse service in Helsinki. We weren't given cutlery or water, and waited approx. 90 minutes for our food which is why I had to eat the paneer dish as we didn't want to wait any longer.
When a lady finally brought us water, we just got a jug but no glasses to drink it from. Similar things were going on around us; people complaining they had waited for their aperitives for more than an hour, or that their food was cold.
It kind of just felt they had no idea how to run a restaurant. It's unfortunately about the service, not the food. This is why I will definitely not be returning to Swad. Guess you shouldn't get a critic to review your restaurant if a day later you're running the place...
