I stayed at Sokos Hotel Valjus with my grandmother for two nights. While I was expecting an average room in an average hotel, I must say I was disappointed even with those expectations. While the staff was friendly, the rooms (as well as the hotel in general) really were quite terrible. First of all, it was very hot, which we received no warning of. However, this I think is understandable in a hotel as old as this one, especially when Finland normally doesn't have summers quite so hot. Even then, the room was what one might call the opposite of cozy, had poor air quality, an INCREDIBLY small shower cubicle, very uncomfortable pillows and comforters, and on top of all that it was also dirty (dirt stuck to your feet when walking barefoot, dirty bathroom cabinets etc.). The uncleanliness was the last straw for me, especially at a time like this (global pandemic).|Breakfast was great, but unfortunately didn't make up for the uncomfortable stay (think of a boiling hot room with unpleasant bedding). This hotel definitely needs an upgrade, BADLY, and I think it looks bad in the general Sokos Hotel chain. For basically the same price you could stay at a brand new hotel in Turku, for example, which was a great deal more pleasant stay. Please do renovate this place from top to bottom. The location is great, and you could do so much better. As it stands right now, however, I wouldn't stay here...
Read moreSokos Hotel Valjus is located right in the heart of Kajaani city, so if youre there for fun or for business, its perfect location👌. We arrived there yesterday late night after spending 4 nights and 5 days in 82km Karhunkierros hiking trail and were in need of good bed and food. Even tho it was late, we still got a parking lot right infront of the hotel (they have plenty of room for cars and also indoor parking house under the hotel). The room was perfect with big mirror and huge tv that had everything init like wireless and chromecast and well designed (by accident we got a nature theme room after spending 4 nights in the wilderness😄🌲). Bathroom looked fresh and had solid hotel vibes👍. The reception was extremely proffessional, friendly and very helpful. Even tho restaurant and bar were closed then because it was late night, they recommended local bars for us to have a drink and even lend us the umbrella, since it was raining outside. Don't remember the name of the man in front desk, but huge thanks to him for making out night perfect🫡🖐! Breakfast was variable from vege foods up to bacon strips and fruits and very tasty. All in all top notch hotel from top to bottom and definitely worth...
Read moreWe had a familyroom which are on the first floor next to busy parking lot. While we were staying there was a Terveystalo MRI truck parked next to our window (really less than 2 meters from our window!!). It was awfully annoying, horrible noice and smell of fumes. We tried to call to the reception at 9 pm and nobody answered. We called and called and called and finally we got a contact with a staff member. She was awfully busy working alone but managed to arrange us two standard rooms instead of a family room. She really did her best and of course the MRI truck parking next to our window was not their fault. Next moening while checking out we heard the hotel have had some issues also earlier with the truck.|The rooms are dated and quite hot even if it was only +15 celcius outside. But it was really clean and cosy and the sleeping quality was good after changing the room.|The breakfast was just perfect, there is...
