Kajaani Art Museum — Attraction in Kajaani sub-region

Vexi Salmi, a Finnish lyricist and composer responsible for about 3000 popular songs in Finland has amassed a largish collection of art, photographs, drawings, paintings and other art items over several decades and has donated a sizeable selection from his private collection to museums. Kajaani art museum has a well curated exhibition of exhibits from this collection. Definitely worth seeing. I was especially enthused over German expressionist works from the 1920's and 1930's. I went to see the artist Pauno Pohjolainen's exhibition in this nice, small and free art museum. The exhibition was wonderfully structured and the artworks were interesting. The museum building worked well as an art museum and it is located right in the middle of the city. The staff was friendly. Nice place with a history behind it. Definitely a must-visit for residents of the city. The service is nice and friendly and the staff are very well-educated on their work and the museum. Really inspiring and interesting exhibition. I just wish there would be more informational materials...
