We booked this hotel prior to checking the reviews thoroughly in which we discovered that lots of other reviewers disliked their stay, so we were prepared for the worst, thankfully though, it wasn't as bad as anticipated. ||||In short, this hotel isn’t recommended unless you have a specific business in the local area of Malakoff, so definitely not for tourists. Two metros are within 10-15mins of walking, but it will take around 30mins via that to get to the center of the city. There is a small shop around the corner of the hotel. The hotel is located in the suburbs, which are pleasant enough in my opinion and give a quieter, calmer atmosphere than the busier parts of the city. ||||The room we had was a ‘Classic Room’ with a Queen Bed. The cleanliness of the hotel room isn’t great, although the toilet, shower, and bed were clean (which is the most important in my opinion) so not actually as bad as other reviewers' experiences. However, the carpet was filthy and was in need of a significant clean, the room safe wasn’t reset so we were unable to store valuables and in trying to speak to the receptionist about it, the one on shift only spoke enough English to tell us that she didn’t understand us. The air conditioning unit was very squeaky and also very dusty and the lightbulb in the bathroom was flickering (which was mildly humorous as the hotel is themed around lightbulbs). The queen-sized bed was only two very simple beds put together with poor quality pillows and a thin duvet, enough to sleep with but not very comfortable as the mattresses felt very used and uneven. The room wasn’t small like other images I’ve seen but still felt cramped in some places. Others have commented in their reviews that there was an awful smell in the hotel walkways and the rooms and we could smell this too, it’s probably sewage systems, but in honesty, it wasn’t bad enough to disturb our stay. ||||On the plus side, the room did have enough amenities from a mini-fridge, hand dryer and complimentary coffees with a kettle, it does offer in-room service although we didn’t try this. The room was quiet enough (air-con issues aside) although I’m not sure how busy it was as this is a quiet time of the year, so we might’ve been lucky that there were not many other guests. ||||Others mentioned in their reviews that the lift was always busy, but we didn’t experience this when using it. ||||On a positive, despite the language barrier above, the staff were friendly and when liaising with one of them during checkout she was helpful to arrange a taxi to the airport. The airport we traveled from was CDG so it was a good 45min+ away from the hotel, so exercise caution if you’re traveling from this. ||||The hotel is not too expensive, but it’s not cheap either. I echo from the other reviewers that if it took a bit more pride in itself, it would be more of a pleasing stay, but for a Mercure branded hotel, it’s no way near up to the...
Read moreChecked in a couple of years ago (this review got flagged and didn't post) and was initially given Room 17. Upon entering, I noticed dirt in the shower and a used towel left inside—suggesting the room hadn’t been properly cleaned. As it was already 11pm, I went downstairs to request a different room.
I was moved to Room 44 on the fourth floor. Unfortunately, the hotel’s lift was out of order, so I had to carry my things up several flights of stairs. I was also told not to unpack, as I’d be moved back to Room 17 the next day.
The following morning, I spoke to the manager on duty, who explained that Room 17—and in fact, the entire first floor—had been experiencing ongoing flooding issues. I was informed that I’d remain in Room 44 for the rest of my stay, and Room 17 was closed for the week.
It’s hard not to question why I was placed in Room 17 to begin with if those issues were known, and whether I would have remained there had I not said anything.
No apology was offered for the inconvenience, and no gesture of goodwill was provided. It was ultimately Hotels.com (Expedia) that issued an apology on the hotel’s behalf.
I’ve included a photo of the shower as it was found, as well as a bag of crisps left behind from a previous guest that was still there after housekeeping.
Overall, a disappointing experience. Basic cleanliness and communication should be a given, and unfortunately, that wasn’t...
Read moreTHIS HOTEL WAS ABLE TO BOOK THE SAME ROOMS TWICE!! I booked two rooms for a business trip, and when I arrived there, they told me that I had cancelled the staying. I had no idea what they were talking about 🤯. They showed me a chat conversation they had with someone that was not me, and this person cancelled on my behalf... Conveniently for the hotel, the reimbursement was not a possibility and they gave our rooms to someone else.I tried countless times to contact Booking, spent 60 euros on calls, wasted time and effort for nothing, as they were bullshitting me on how they were conducting an investigation, and every time I called, I had to re-explain the situation to a new operator. 😡 It does not matter if it was malicious, unintentional, if it was Booking's or the hotel's fault: the end of the story is that the hotel booked the same rooms twice, I didn't get my money back and Booking did nothing about it. I cannot understand how something like this can happen, but in reality it did and no one was able to give an answer. Cherry on top: the hotel booked another two rooms in another hotel (part of the same chain) and they wrote my colleague's surname wrong, so that the other hotel could not find him on the new reservation! Really...
