My wife and I stayed there with our 20 month old boy for 10 nights in one of the 3 apartments on the site. ||||The strength of Duna Mungay is not necessarily the facilities (although all the facilities are good - small pool, immaculate washing room, little playground), it is the level of personal service from owners Anne & Remi and assistant Clara that stood out for us - nothing was a problem for them. ||||From the very beginning of our stay they were all extremely helpful in terms of suggestions for car hire, restaurants, bike hire, local shops and excursions to the Basque Country. ||||The site is located ideally between St Jean De Luz (lovely seaside town) and Biarritz. Ideally you need a car or a bike to get to either location - if hiring a bike baby/child seats are available. The hills in the area are quite steep and plentiful but manageable all the same. ||||We drove to St Sebastián for a day (1 HR approx) which is a beautiful city and to Bordeaux (2 HR) which is also very nice as well as St Jean De Pieds de Ports (50 mins).||||The site itself is quite small which makes it ideal for small children/infants as it is nice and quiet in the evenings. ||||Our 2 bed apartment was basic enough but very functional and clean. We had a little enclosed garden (with a bbq) which was great for our little fellow to play around in and for us to relax in the evenings. ||||Anne organised fresh bread every morning through a local baker which was good - there is a small market 5 mins walk from the site which caters for all the essential food items but there is also a large Carefour about 5 mins drive away for bigger shopping items. ||||Don't expect great wifi or phone coverage - to me this was a blessing on a holiday to get away from electronic devices for a few days!||||Overall I would recommend this site highly if you like the personal touch when it comes to service and local knowledge.||||A very...
Read moreWe recently stayed for 2 weeks in one of the on-site apartments in Duna Munguy. We are a couple with a 19 month old boy.||||The site and facilities were very good. Our apartment was clean and had everything we needed. We were provided an excellent cot and baby chair from the owners. The small garden area was ideal for our son to play with loads of shade, and there is a nice BBQ and picnic table. The site was quiet, the staff extremely helpful and pleasant, and the shared facilities (of which we only used the washing facilities) excellent. Any of the other guests we met on site were extremely nice. There are plenty of nearby shops, pizzerias, and cafes. The main local supermarket is a 5 minute drive.||||The pool was very quiet, given that it's early in the season, but was a great amenity for cooling off on the hotter days. It was a little on the cold side for our young boy, but he was happy to swim in it for 10 minutes.||||The highlight, and surprise, for us was the immediate locality. It is a real gem of an area. There are three excellent beaches near Duna Munguy, which we visited frequently. There are also a large number of beach bar type restaurants, some of which are excellent. There is a beautiful coastal walk into St Jean de Luz (to the south - around 90 minutes) and Guethary (to the north - around 20 minutes). The area around Duna Munguy feels remote and wild, even though you are only a few minutes drive from the main tourist centres. I would recommend staying in this area over the main hubs of St Jean and Biarritz. It is a great base to visit these areas and the rest of the French and Spanish Basque regions. Would definitely recommend and...
Read moreI am a little delayed in posting this review of a fantastic site we had the pleasure of visiting in June of this year. ||Currently sitting in our caravan in England in the rain and reflecting on the summer we have had has reminded us of the lovely break we had in the region and how we think we chose the best site in the area. ||I would echo many previous reviews: facilities are kept spotlessly clean at any time of day, and the pool was a nice little oasis to relax in. ||I would also agree that the kindest hospitality shown to us from Anne, Remy and Clara made us feel most welcomed. Nothing was too much trouble, but equally they were unobtrusive leaving us to enjoy our precious break.|| I managed to inconveniently sustain an insect bite to my neck which started to swell: on a Sunday of course!! Not only did Anne advise us of the nearest pharmacy that was open, when we got there, she had already informed them of the problem so we didn't have to worry about communication. ||We also had great advice on travelling to St Sebastian by train and local restaurants and attractions.||There are only about 8 pitches for tents/ tourers so ideal if like us you don't like the massive sites: it adds to the personal attention and fellow campers being courteous towards the facilities. Only point which is not necessarily a negative: some of the pitches would appear tight to get onto on first impressions. But if you can manoeuvre your van, have a motor mover or are in a Motorhome/camper van or in a tent, then this is the perfect site. And in fact, Remy would help you so don't be put off if you are a...
