An inexpensive, secure and well-maintained family-friendly campground right on Sword Beach in Lion-sur-mer. The campsites are large (7x7 meters) with electric hookups. We visited with 3 tents for 6 people, plus a space for a kitchen and parking for 2 vehicles in one space. There was plenty of room for a central communal space in the center of our camp. It was perfect!
The toilets and showers are very clean, but you must bring your own toilet paper! Showers and exterior washing areas have hot water! There is free wifi, and easy to access trash and recycling. There is a clothes washer and dryer on the premises. The toilet and showers are cleaned several times a day and the entire campground is monitored by a security staff day and night.
The staff are extremely pleasant and knowledgeable about the points of interest to a distance for families and history buffs.
The campground is situated with direct access to the beach and main pedestrian /cyclist route to the center of town so that you never have to drive at all for any of your needs-- tabac, cinéma, creamery, à variété of restaurants and shops, and public toilets. Lion-sur-mer is a gem unto itself! There is a Carrefour marché within walking distance to the campground. Restaurants are few, very expensive, and often require reservations. If you want a seafood dinner, you will be disappointed, despite the proximity to the Channel (la Manche). My family spent 1 hour at lowtide gathering small clams, mussels, crabs, and shrimp from the beach and had a free feast compared to the menus at the local restaurants. Pizza restaurants are abundant and adequate but not noteworthy.
The beach itself is especially friendly for families with young children - lots of sand, small waves, and tidal pools for discovery of wildlife without danger.
I anticipate revisiting this campground again and again because of the value, the cleanliness, proximity to the beach and town, and the security. This campground is a gem in the heart of...
Read moreIt's not our kind of place, I'm afraid. Staff were lovely, and we stayed one night out of the 2 we booked. Pitches not bad in general. Some, around 8/10, had a sea view, but the whole area was a bit tired, and because there was an open access off the sea front we witnessed people coming on to site just to use the toilets. There was a gate, but it clearly hadn't been closed in a long time . Barrier on the road side though. Walk into town only 5/10 minutes across the front, which was ok if it wasn't for the numerous piles of dog poo everywhere. I know that's out of sites control, and it's a shame . The sanitary facilties very old and tired and not inviting so we...
Read moreOur second visit to this lovely and relatively small site right on the beach. Pitches are a good size and quite flat. A little English spoken by the very friendly and helpful staff. Four push button showers without temperature control. Facilities clean. Dish and clothes washing possible. Short walk to village with supermarket, tabak and a couple of places to eat. Beach is large and clean. Very handy stopover on the way back to Caen ferry. Would...
