We decided to go to Corsica last minute and on the advice of our agent booked Resident Saletta. Well how fortunate we did. From the minute we arrived we felt at home, Jean Baptiste and Josephine make you feel at home, both speak excellent English and are happy to share recommendations and places to visit with you. We had forgotten to take a shaver adapter with us and rather than us shop they spent a couple of days getting the right adapter which we felt was above and beyond the call of duty. Anyway now to the apartments, they are new so very clean, excellently furnished and have lots of equipment in the kitchen that is not normally supplied in apartments - for example a salad spinner. More than enough crockery for you to be able to fill the dishwasher and have some spare and a really nice touch of small bottles of washing up liquid, hand sanitiser, surface cleaner and dishwashing tablets - apparently we could ask for more if needed. Clothes dryers are available for the large balcony. Two swimming pools which as we were slightly out of season were quiet, one was heated and one was not but both had lovely sun loungers and a soft seating area around the larger one. There is a large car park to the side of the building and a rear pedestrian entrance. This leads you to the port and railway station one side and the old town and restaurants, leading in to the new town the other side. Both are reachable within a 4 minute walk even if you are not that active - although both are on slight inclines (but definitely not hills). The main old town of L’ile Rousse runs along three streets that are parallel to each other with a promenade. They are cobbled but have plenty of restaurant choices even at this time of year. we had a hire car but you could easily spend a week here with train access to Calvi if you want a relaxing holiday without a car. Breakfast is available at the main building which at 10Euros for a continental breakfast of croissants, bread, juice and coffee was reasonable when compared to the 7Euros that local cafes provided for not as much choice. The 15 Euro breakfast was more of a buffet and was equally good. Some things that may not be too obvious when booking - if you are staying a fortnight - towels are changed on a Wednesday and Sunday and the bed linen is changed on the Sunday as well - as well as a quick clean of the apartment. You can pay extra for a daily clean but with just two of us we did not feel that was necessary. There is a bar available - we did not use this so not sure how it works but it is there if you wanted a glass of wine or spirit and mixer. There is a also a coffee machine/kettle in reception that is available all day with the tea.coffee and the local Corsican biscuits. ||||Excellent wifi was available throughout the buildings and pool areas.||||Although we were there for two weeks we did not feel the need to go out and visit too many places in this holiday as we know that we want to go back in the...
Read moreWe loved Residence Saletta!||As per the last review, the apartments are minimally furnished in a nice, modern way and have fabulous air conditioning with comfy beds. We had a top floor sea view apartment and enjoyed many mornings and evenings playing cards and ferry spotting on the balcony. Visiting during the current pandemic meant we didn’t want to eat out a lot but we were perfectly situated in the town to nip out to local shops for groceries or a take away pizza / an ice cream and could cook easily and eat in the lovely apartment.||The swimming pools are great and having two meant neither felt crowded. One is meant to be heated and has some jacuzzi style jets at one end but the temperature was the same as the larger pool. It didn’t need to be heated in the lovely Corsican weather though. There is a great bakery delivery option you can sign up for where you get freshly baked croissant and bread delivered before 9am to your door which my kids LOVED. There is a small outdoor bar and apparently a breakfast buffet but I’m not sure if it was running due to the pandemic. The communal areas are furnished beautifully in a minimalistic but trendy way. Great soft furnishings. ||The first couple of days there were very strong winds and it was very noisy in the apartment with the wind howling through the open spaces of the block and you do hear a some road noise at night but on the whole it was peaceful and tranquil despite being so close to the town. ||The station is very close by if you want to take the small (very hot and crowded on the return) train to Calvi, we went a few stops and it was an amazing experience with stunning views but glad we only went ten minutes away as it was very hot in the old coaches with a mask on! ||Can recommend the ice cream store on Rue Notre Dame and also L’escale - so delicious and a very family friendly restaurant. I’lle Rousse is a lovely seaside town, great shops, cafes, walks etc - the beach does get crowded but there plenty of nearby beaches within ten mins drive to try. The water is crystal clear, warm and we didn’t see any jelly fish on our visit. ||There is a large supermarket about 5 mins drive away which had an amazing choice of food and drinks, as well as great beach and pool toys. There was a spa and casino supermarket store in i’lle rousse if you don’t have a car though.||Melissa in the reception was really helpful, booking us a restaurant, helping with the laundry room, giving us train times and Information, she even helped looked for a car hire for us when none were available when our flights were changed to Figari (from Bastia!). She was a real star, they are lucky to have her work there. My husband also chatted to the friendly owner and met his incredible basset hound dog who we loved (he only came out in the evenings for those that worry this would put them off). ||Overall top place to...
Read moreA fantastic apartment in a lovely Corsican town. Highly recommend both Corsica and the Residence Saletta.||The pool and apartment were both excellent - very clean and well maintained. The staff (especially Sandra) were brilliant and so friendly. Sandra had heaps of useful local knowledge and nothing was too much trouble. We felt well looked after. Do take advantage of the bakery ordering service online - it was a treat to wake up to fresh croissants and bread every morning!||There is an indoor and an outdoor pool and both were really nice, with plenty of seating around the outside and shade if you wanted it. The bar wasn't open while we were there but it was easy enough to head back to our apartment for drinks and snacks.||The beach is a real highlight - it's less than 5 minutes walk away and it is huge, sandy and very safe. The sea is shallow for a long way out so it's perfect for gentle swimming and playing with family. There are four cafes right on the beachside which all did great lunches and drinks, but still worth packing your own supply of water as they don't seem to offer takeaway drinks. You can hire a sunbed and parasol at any of the cafes or bring your own. We were able to borrow towels and parasols from Sandra which was very helpful.||The market is well worth visiting for fresh fruit and cheese etc and there is a small supermarket close by, with a bigger one only 10 minutes walk away. You will be spoilt for choice re restaurants in the town - we ate at a different one every night and never had a less than superb meal. Lots of lovely little shops too if you want to buy gifts.||We were there for the last week of August and yet it wasn't busy. A lot of the time we had the pool to ourselves and the beach was well used but not crowded. It felt very relaxed. ||The walk up to the lighthouse is worth it for the views but take lots of water and a sunhat!||We hadn't been self catering for a while and loved the adventure but wished we had packed a few cleaning supplies: just maybe a surface spray, some cloths and binbags and a few dishwasher tablets would have been handy. We managed to buy these at the supermarket but in much bigger packs than we needed.||You'll also need to brush off your GCSE French - not much English is spoken and menus etc are usually in French. Despite telling us her English wasn't good, Sandra had excellent English and really helped us out with any questions!||Highly recommend this wonderful residence and the town itself. Perfect for a...
