Just back from our week long trip and we are really going to miss this place!! We booked it as wanted good value and had done research into accommodation locations in comparison to slopes and we were thrilled with our choice. Yes it is 'basic' in regards to facilities but it was perfect for us. Lovely big room with loads of storage - firm beds (which we like) and a massive balcony with full sized windows so we could soak up the view. Breakfast was provided each day with a selection of sweet and savory bakery items, meats, cheeses, yogurts, fruit salad and boiled eggs. I would've loved some veg such as tomatoes or cucumber to have been included too - but that might just be me that likes a bit of salad with a continental breakfast. Coffee machine was great too.||Evening meals were great - proper homecooked rather than fancy, but we enjoyed every single one - and it was absolutely brilliant that they catered to my gluten free, egg free and dairy free diet - as I know that it's not easy to do so. ||We loved the staff and looked forward to heading up for a pre dinner drink in the little bar area.||It is a hotel that caters for big groups too so bear that in mind as breakfast was a bit busy first thing, but not a real negative. The group we had were a lot of fun and greater us every morning and night (despite the language barrier)!||Ski room was basic but functional woth each room being allocated a locker - and the best thing of all was that you literally walked out across the road and you were on the Rif Nell green slope!! You could then ski down to the Rif Nell Express, Romains and Marmottes lifts to crack on and start the day.||Only slight negative was that the whole hotel including the room was really hot and not controllable. We slept with the balcony door open most nights. And it was t shirts/vest tops in the restaurant - especially when the sun was coming in.||We will definitely be back to Alpe d'Huez and can't imagine staying anywhere else - walkable to the bars in the town and a Carrefour was about...
Read moreCurrently staying at the hotel. Location is good. It’s clean and functional. The beds are comfortable and shower is good. The staff are friendly but useless! ||Breakfast is a sham! The first morning we went for breakfast an hour before breakfast service finished and there was nothing left! No pastries, no pancakes, no yogurts, no meat or cheese, no coffee and no milk! They also had nothing left to replenish it all with. There was bread and cereal (but no milk) and eggs. Every table was dirty also. The following mornings we came down even earlier and there was plenty of food but the staff lack attention. The boiled egg machine never has enough water in it so I have to ask for it to be refilled. They don’t notice when anything runs out like plates etc so again I have to ask. They let the coffee machine run empty rather than keeping it topped up and my fiancé swears he pressed latte and it definitely gave him a mocha! ||The lift is always wet because people wear their ski boots in it which you’re not supposed to do. Meaning the rest of us have to get wet socks when going back to our room. The ski lockers are clearly numbered and someone had taken ours meaning we were forced to take someone else’s. It’s not the staff fault but they should enforce the rules. ||The room gets “cleaned” each day apparently. They don’t make the bed for you. They give you more toilet roll when needed but left it up to us to actually replace it on the holder. They re fold the shower mat towel but other than that I don’t see what they do!?!? They haven’t given us any new shower gel miniatures as yet either which I suppose I’m going to have to ask...
Read moreMy husband and I have skiied in numerous countries over the years including 8 times in Alpes d’Huez, staying at various chalets and apartments and this time we had a wonderful 2 week stay at Le Chaix. The rooms were clean, comfortable and had ample storage. Lovely views, warm and most importantly the hotel was so close to the ski run. We just had to walk across the road and a little car park to the slope and ski down a gently run to the main lifts at Les Bergers. The breakfast was a nice continental buffet on the top floor where you could sit where you wanted to and have wonderful view of the mountains. Dinner was in the same place and the three course set menu was great. It was nice, not to have to make a decision on what to eat after a tiring day on the mountain. Like going to my Mums for dinner. The bar/relaxing area next to the dining room was nice but not open much outside dinning times. Not that we needed it, relaxing in our room was perfect when we had an early finish on the slopes. The ski lockers downstairs, with direct access onto the road was great and having a toilet down there was very useful. There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room and if you want a hairdryer you need to borrow one from reception, but don’t forget, this is a 2 star hotel. And therefore, for the price, it was excellent value. The hotel is so central to shops, bars and the pool which we used a lot. And finally, the staff were awesome. Friendly, attentive and fun. Their English was perfect and they were very sweet at tolerating our attempts at French! Thanks guys xx We will certainly be...
