I don't know where to start. We stayed here on the first week of season in December 2024 and I had the best holiday I've had in years. The hotel was incredibly deceiving in how well it hid its brilliance. From the moment we stepped off the coach and entered the hotel, we were welcomed by the wonderful team, who gave us a thorough introduction to the hotel, including breakfast and dinner times, the bar location, and other key details. Their warm and welcoming energy really set the tone for an incredible stay.||I booked the holiday through Crystal, who were also fantastic, and I was initially apprehensive about the hotel since we got quite a good deal. However, I was blown away. Le Petit Prince may be rated as a 3 star hotel, but it absolutely deserves a 4 star rating (if not more!). Every aspect exceeded my expectations. See below for a breakdown of our week.||Half Board: |The half board was brilliant. It felt like dining in a Michelin-star restaurant every evening. The service was just as outstanding - huge shoutout to the whole team, especially Emily, who made our stay extra special. Every morning, it was a joy to chat with the staff, and honestly, I’d book here again just to see everyone again.||Dinner: Every evening featured a different three-course meal of outstanding quality. The variety and quality of dishes was excellent. This was a real surprise as it wasn't advertised in great detail on their website or social pages. 10/10 each evening.||Breakfast: A simple but perfect self service buffet - don’t let the word "buffet" put you off. It was thoughtfully curated with eggs, beans, a different meat based protein each day (bacon or sausage), fresh fruit, bread, pastries, fresh coffee, tea, juice, and even warm plates. It really was the best way to start the day/||The Room & Facilities|Our twin room was superb. It had stunning views of the mountains and a lovely balcony. The decor and amenities were modern, tasteful, and far beyond what I expected. It was really clean, and most importantly comfy. ||Standout Highlights|The Service: The hotel team made our entire experience unforgettable. We felt truly looked after, and the level of hospitality was second to none. Having never been at the resort, the team helped us get our bearings and suggested some really lovely spots to go to in the area. I cannot thank the team enough for such a great week. ||Location:||Le Petit Prince sits just above the Grand Sure lift, a chairlift that takes you to a very central spot with pink (lower than green) and red run that take you directly to the main part of the ski resort. Accessing this lift was a breeze, you have two options to reach it:||- Walk three minutes down the road with your skis to reach a piste leading to the lift entrance.|- Or walk up the road 30 seconds and jump onto the tail end of the blue piste and be there in half the time.||The hotel is also a 3 minute walk from a strip of bars, ideal if that’s your scene! And no, noise doesn't travel from these venues which was perfect.||It's also a 4 minute walk to the Télécentre lift, a shuttle lift that conveniently drops you at different resort levels.||Alpe d’Huez – A Fantastic Resort:||Alpe d'Huez is my absolutely favourite ski resort in the whole of the French Alps. The overall vibe is friendly, with plenty to do to fill a week long stay. There's a range of bars, restaurants, cafes, and nightlife venues to enjoy. ||Après ski is super accessible which was great for my partner. There was no need to ski in and out from venues like Folie; we simply hopped on the gondola up and down. From the hotel it took us about 30 minutes to reach Folie Douce. Simply walk to the Alpe Express gondola, jump on it, then hop off at Bergers, stroll one minute to the Marmottes 1 lift and take a gondola to the top where Folie sits.||There’s also a cracking après bar, Moose Bar, a 5 minute walk from the bottom of Marmottes 1 gondola that opens right after Folie finishes. It had more pop / cheese tracks to party to which was more our scene.||The ski runs are also brilliant for beginners, with wide open pistes that offer the freedom to switch up your route instead of being stuck on one narrow run. Compared to resorts like Val Thorens, the pistes felt really open and you could see everything rather than being confined to one run. Beautiful resort.||I would love to return to Le Petit Prince - the team there gave me one of the best holidays I’ve had in years and for that I cannot say thank them enough. We can't wait to stay...
Read moreWe stayed as a family in a quad room, 2 adults and 2 boys, 8 and 2 (35 months) year old. Booking through Crystal Ski. ||Hotel serves a good buffet breakfast and evening meal is a set menu, I was not disappointed one night. Kitchen offered a children's menu and both boys never left hungry. ||There is a kids room with daily and nightly activities which can be viewed near reception. ||Bar is very comfortable and wasn't overly busy during our stay. ||Quad room had plenty room for us all. Storage was excellent and probably the best I've seen for hanging pegs for ski gear. ||Boot room had boot dryers. There is a separate ski room next to boot room, accessed from outside. All very convenient, accessed with room key. ||Families take note. The hotel is on the outskirts of town and getting the 2 year old to the ESF Chalet de Enfants meant a walk down the hill to catch the Alpe Express (gondola) or wait for the bus that only went past the hotel every 30 min. 0801 and 0832. The 8 year old was booked into ESF lessons as was my wife. All lessons should be booked for Bergers and not Grandes Rousses as ESF Chalet de Enfants is at Bergers. The return from Bergers is easy enough, my wife wore boots to lessons carrying ski boots and got changed once at the Chalet. ||Access to the slopes for beginners is either by a walk to the Alpe Express Gondola or Telecentre Lift. More confident skiers can walk up the hill, through a hotel car park and ski down to the Grande Sure chairlift. There's also another access point to Grande Sure down the hill but it was never well groomed and labeled as a difficult slope. ||Access back to the hotel is either walking up the hill from the Alpe Express/Telecentre or along the green/blue Village run from the bottom of the Signal chair lift. The Village run goes along the top of the hotels, once you get to the last hotel there is skiable access to their car park, then a short walk to the Petite Prince. ||We booked our 2 year old into ESF direct as they allow children from 2.5 to attend. Our 8 year old was booked into Crystal Beanie Bear club and although the care by Crystal staff was excellent, I'd reccomend booking into ESF direct as dropping off and collecting from MMV Les Bergers when not a resident there...
Read moreThe hotel bar, restaurant and sun terrace are beautiful with fantastic views of the mountains. ||The food for adults is delicious - but the kids’ menu is a bit random and not what you’d expect. Our 8 year old ate a lot of bread as he didn’t like the options, which are NOT your usual children’s nuggets, pizza, fish fingers etc. ||The staff are lovely - although a bit inefficient and dinner times could be very slow…||The hotel ski hire is handy - but with limited selection. ||The location is on the edge of town ….its an 8 minute walk. And it’s not great for ski school timings as the Grand Sure chair lift, doesn’t start in time to get you to lessons and neither does the 0836 bus… ||We ended up getting the 0801 bus - but had to ask for an earlier breakfast, as it doesn’t start till 7.30am. They accommodated this, but a bit begrudgingly. ||The room (quad with balcony) was nice, but away down in the lower ground floor. Not much storage or hanging space. But it was quiet with nice views. ||We booked with Crystal, who were great pre travel…but seem to fall down in their communications between head office and resort. Little real resort knowledge of London staff meant that we had a few problems on arrival due to wrong lesson level etc. ||Crystal put you into ESF lessons at Grand Rousse. I don’t know why - Bergers is closer…||A few other Crystal problems such as the intermediate skis we had paid for not being available., the full leisure pass not being coded onto our ski pass. And an instructor losing our child on the slopes. But these were not the fault of the hotel and the reps did deal with it all. ||Overall, we found Alpe’dHuez too big a resort for our liking, so we wouldn’t go back. But it’s a beautiful hotel, with great food and friendly staff…if you don’t mind being on the outskirts. You CAN ski home…..down a long mogul red, or along a very long and flat green. With our kids, we went for...
