Davy crockett ranch is the perfect accomodation if you're on a budget. However, as it's the cheapest of all the Disney accomodations, it does come with its flaws. If you can cope with the little issues it's definitely worth the price.
Firstly, I highly recommend filling in the online check in form found in the Disneyland Paris app. This is available to complete 7 days before your stay begins. If you take the time to fill in the form the only thing you have to do upon arrival is show some ID and pick up your room key. It saves an awful lot of time, especially after a long drive.
Driving is almost essential when stopping at DC as some of the cabins are very far from the main resort. Each cabin has its own parking space wide enough for 2 cars.
The cabin is very spacious and has plenty of storage. We saw several reviews saying the beds were uncomfortable but this wasn't the case for us. Your cabin will not get cleaned for the entirety of your stay. It is up to you to do your own cleaning but everything is supplied (go to the outpost in the main area to pick up your free cleaning kit.) You also will not be given extra toilet roll. You're given two rolls for the duration of your stay, so bare this in mind. You can purchase more from their shop but it's expensive.
The outpost has a shop inside with everything you need including food, drink and essentials. However, it's quite pricey and there is a Lidl just a short drive away.
The bar is nicely themed and reasonably priced with a good selection of beer, cider and cocktails. However, chances are you'll have to drive to get to the area or be prepared to walk the half hour back to your cabin if you're further back.
The swimming pool is huge with one water slide for a wide range of ages (we were able to take our 2 year old on but he had to go on with us and wear arm bands.) it also has a large lazy river and a large hot tub. Be aware the temperature of the pool is about 27 degrees so it's not exactly warm. We took our 6 month old girl in and she had to come back out within half an hour because she got too cold. So if you're going with babies bring a thermal swimsuit.
If you're traveling with kids, each building has its own sticker with a character behind the counter. Just ask a staff member for one and they're free. It's just a fun little activity for kids to collect whilst you're there that you don't get told about.
Finally, DC is only a 7 minute drive from the theme park and it's a very easy straight drive. Have your magic pass QR code ready on the app or your physical card ready for the barriers to gain access...
Read moreSadly our trip was spoilt by the smell! ||We booked direct with Disneyland Paris for 4 nights. This was our sonâs first experience of Disney as he doesnât remember when we came and he was a baby. ||We chose the new cabins as weâd read reviews about the old run down ones. Unfortunately they have issues too! They Look lovely from the outside and beautiful inside too with the ducktales theming. However when we opened our lodge we could smell an awful stench! It made your eyes water and caught the back of the throat, like a strong rotten cabbage smell. We opened windows, and I sprayed deodorant around. We hoped it would disappear, maybe the people before had left something? But no, We got back late from the park on the first night and it still smelt, coming in waves. So bad it made you feel sick and not like you wanted to eat or sleep there! So on our 2nd day we went to reception after a day in the park. They sent a maintenance person who didnât even look for the source but went straight to the phone and told reception to move us. We had to go back to them to get keys and change over that night, it took up our evening and we didnât get our son to bed until midnight! ||We were so disappointed to have missed out on the beginning part of our holiday not enjoying our lodge and time lost by moving when weâd unpacked! I said this to reception and they just apologised, but they said it was âjust problem with the drains and sewageâ and not anything serious. Disgusting! Would you stay in a place with a sewage smell even if someone paid you? Let alone paying out so much of our money weâd saved for this trip! ||We asked for an extra night to make up for the lost time but we were told no, city hall gave my son a shoulder buddy and reception gave us one free breakfast to go bag. We did appreciate these good will gestures, but we feel like this didnât really make up for what we went through! ||Why didnât housekeeping let them know this lodge wasnât fit to stay in when they got it ready? ||It is a shame as the site is lovely. Itâs clean and we loved the theming. The shop is well stocked and not too expensive. We had a lovely meal in the tavern and my son loved the pool, although sadly the flume was broken and had been for weeks apparently but this wasnât on the website or passed on to us to prepare him beforehand and heâd been so excited as itâs in the pictures we showed him. ||So sadly this could have been amazing had we not had these issues!    Read moreI have stayed at Davy Crockett ranch numerous times since 1993. Since then it had stayed relatively the same in terms of decor and layout. However over the years it has become outdated and tired in my opinion. I am aware the new cabins are slowly being added and having seen some review videos of them i am impressed (albeit reservedly until I see for myself). However these new cabins are taking a very very long time to be offered to every staying guest and it is currently just down to luck if you get a new cabin or an older one.
Our cabin was an old one this stay. It is tired and old but usable. Some parts of the cabin had clearly been refreshed like the sofa covering but sadly this just made the old and outdated decor look worse. Thr kitchen was well equipped and roomy for what is essentially a seaside caravan in a pretty "cabin in the wood" coat. Towels were provided, as well as shampoo and a washing up starter kit for the kitchen. It was clean and I have no complaints other than it being old and in need of a good freshen up or revamp.
One huge thing though to point out. I've always been a larger lady and my husband a larger man. As the years have passed we've seen the middle age spread and more. Both of us are considered plus size or obese. This has lead to one or two problems in our cabin.
Firstly the showers are large enough for a 20 stone person for sure (I am under 20st and there was still some room to spare), however the shower room is not large enough to dress in after drying yourself. The towels provided are not big enough to cover a larger bottom so it was was a little awkward trying to keep decent and get dressed.
Secondly the beds are small. A larger person will struggle with moving in the bed and the mattresses are rocks disguised as mattresses.
Lastly and definitely not least, the room for toileting and clean up is very limited. My husband decided the only place to relieve himself was the Disneyland Park toilets on Main street as the stalls were bigger than the bathrooms in the cabin. Honestly clean up in the cabin bathrooms was a nightmare. Genuinely I considered using the shower as a bidet just for ease of cleaning.
Overall I think I'm done with DCR until all cabins offered are...
