Overall 8/10 I booked 3 nights at Grand Magic Hotel as it was close in proximity to Disneyland Paris. Although we did not spend much time at the hotel, I am glad I chose it as it really did feel magical which added to our Disneyland experience. Most advise was to book somewhere cheap and close to Disney if we weren't staying onsite, as we wouldn't be spending much time there but it was the aesthetics of the hotel that elevated our overall experience.
10/10 The hotel itself is beautiful, especially the lobby and walkway heading towards the dining area and lifts. The lights and themes change throughout the day which is visually appealing. There are two arcade rooms at each end of the walkway which is great for kids. There is a pool and gym which I didn't see due to time restraints so I can't comment on those but they are available to use until 10pm.
8/10 We had a family room which compromised of a very large bed and bunk beds. The beds were comfortable and the pillows felt like clouds. There was a tea/coffee station as well as a fridge in the room which we didn't use but it was nice to be included. The bathroom had a bath and shower which is great if you want to soak your muscles after a long day at Disney. Some of the lights have USB ports and the socket at the desk has a type C port which was handy as we only had two adapters with many devices to charge.
1/10 Discovery Birthday Package. I booked a discovery birthday package for my son to be in the room for the day we arrived which cost €40. I was unsure of what this would look like as I couldn't find anything online. This compromised of 3 cheap balloons, sweets piled up into the shape of a cake, hotel branded card game, hotel branded activity book (more like a leaflet) and 4-5 colouring pencils (similar to what some restaurants give to children). This felt like the biggest waste of money from our whole trip as the value did not exceed €5.
7/10 The breakfast buffet had enough options but the quality of some of the food wasn't great, the scrambled eggs were runny and had a porridge consistency, so we opted for croissants, chocolate brioche, cereal and fruit. Although there were other options such as salads, veg, breads, rice, cakes etc. Plenty of juice and hot drinks too. One point to take note of is, if your whole party is not going down for breakfast together, the staff can make an issue as they tick your room number off a list and once you leave breakfast you can't go back inside.
7/10 The free shuttle service to Disneyland runs every 20 minutes from 8.11am until around 11pm and from my experience was always on time. Both days we used the shuttle service it appeared that Grand Magic Hotel was the first stop as it was empty, which was great for being able to get a seat before it became packed out with every stop after. However on the way back to the hotel the shuttle was very busy so on our second day we took a bolt which cost around £10 and was worth every penny.
The reception staff at Grand Magic Hotel were friendly and helpful, the staff in the dining room during breakfast however were not as friendly or helpful. One staff member in particular was abrupt and had us waiting at the podium for our room number to be ticked off the list for breakfast while she walked off to clean tables. This wouldn't usually bother me as it could be an issue of understaffing, but there were enough tables for us to be able to take our seats first.
Overall, we did enjoy our experience at Grand Magic Hotel, although it is not a Disney hotel it did feel magical, especially after returning from the park. If I was to go to Disneyland again I would stay here again too, I just wouldn't book a birthday package, as that was not worth it,...
Read moreA Mixed Experience at the Grand Magic Hotel
Introduction: My recent stay at the Grand Magic Hotel was a mixed bag of experiences. While there were some positive aspects that contributed to an enjoyable stay, there were also a few areas that left room for improvement.
Location and Accessibility: The Grand Magic Hotel is conveniently located in close proximity to the Disney park. This made it easy for us to access the park and enjoy our time there without the hassle of long commutes.
Hotel Size and Crowdedness: As one would expect from a large hotel, the Grand Magic Hotel boasts an extensive number of rooms. However, during our stay, the hotel felt quite crowded, which led to some inconveniences and delays in service.
Room Quality and Cleanliness: The rooms at the Grand Magic Hotel were basic but clean. While they lacked some of the frills and luxurious touches, they provided a comfortable space to rest after a long day at the park.
Amenities: One of the highlights of our stay was the hotel's swimming pool. It was a refreshing addition, and we appreciated being able to relax and cool off in the pool during our downtime.
Breakfast: The breakfast provided at the Grand Magic Hotel was decent, offering a variety of options to suit different preferences. It provided a good start to the day, although some items could have been of better quality.
Staff and Service: The hotel staff were kind and accommodating throughout our stay. They were always ready to assist and answer any questions we had, making us feel welcome and valued as guests.
Facilities: Unfortunately, we did encounter a few issues with our room. There were flickering lights and a broken bed lighting fixture, which detracted from the overall experience. It would have been better if these issues were addressed before our arrival.
Bar Atmosphere: The hotel's bar, while trying to create a magical experience with LED screens, fell short in terms of coziness and warmth. It lacked the inviting ambiance we were hoping for when enjoying a drink.
Self-Service and Minimal Staffing: It's worth noting that the hotel operated with minimal staffing. This meant that we had to collect our own drinks at the bar and bring our baggage to the storage room ourselves. While not a major inconvenience, it did impact the level of service we expected.
Additional Amenities: On a positive note, the presence of a bouncy castle was a delightful surprise. It added a fun element to our stay, particularly for families with children.
Dining and Shopping: While the hotel offered some dining options, it's important to note that there weren't many other dining or shopping options directly within close vicinity. Planning ahead for dining or shopping excursions outside the hotel may be necessary.
Conclusion: In conclusion, the Grand Magic Hotel provided a mixed experience. The convenient location, kind personnel, clean rooms, and enjoyable swimming pool were definite positives. However, the issues with facilities, the lackluster bar atmosphere, and the self-service approach did detract from the overall experience. I would recommend the Grand Magic Hotel for its convenience and basic amenities, but suggest management pays attention to addressing maintenance issues and improving certain aspects of service to enhance guest...
Read moreThis was a bit of a mixed bag for us and the best way to show that is the pro and the resulting con that came with it.
The rooms are very spacious and huge! So this was a really nice surprise and you also have a shower over bath in the bathroom so that was a double tick, however we were given two single beds pushed together with two single mattresses on top, so although each mattress on its own was very comfortable, there was usually a small canyon that opened up between me and my wife (other hotels I've stayed in within the area don't do this from 3 - 4 star) , also the pillows provided were small square ones as apposed to proper pillows which was a bit of a disappointment and you can hear very easily people in the hallways, we couldn't hear the one room next to us though so might just be the hallway side of the room isn't very well sound proofed. Noise tends to die down by midnight however.
They have a free shuttle that takes you between the hotel and Disneyland/Train Station (same place) and this can be as quick as 10 minutes ride, however, this bus will regularly get incredibly busy with barely enough space to move as it can serve up to 4 hotels (2 at best depending on the time) and during the busiest periods you'll have to either be crammed in like a sardine or wait for a bus with more room, which with a bus every 20 minutes, could be a bit of a wait. As an extra note, the bus stop at the front of the train station where you get the shuttle is massively lacking signage for the hotel. It is Stop Q at the end and thankfully we found someone who knew that.
They have a swimming pool and small gym, this is great, however, the pool tends to be a little small for the amount of people using it and more annoyingly a good portion of the lockers in the changing rooms don't work.
There is a small shop in the hotel, however the prices are eye wateringly high for basic amenities, which could be a reflection of you having to get a train to Val d'Europe in order to find the next closest shop to buy amenities at.
The things that couldn't be faulted at all were the amazing staff which really impressed us with how kind and friendly they are including the chef who made me up a gluten free dinner for the buffet dinner to make sure I had no issues, so this was a major plus. The hotel was also spotless and absolutely beautiful in our view (especially the bar area), they had game areas for kids as well and the location I thought was great with the lake and lake view from the room being beautiful.
Overall I would rate it 3.5 stars (if I could but Google limits to 3) as although there were things I loved about this hotel, there were a few things I think shouldn't have been an issue for a 4 star rated hotel which meant it fell just short of my expectations for what at its best really could be an amazing hotel (and is in many respects). Comparing it to another 4 star I stayed in at Val d'Europe, this hotel falls a...
