We just got back from a great weekend stay at the Lighthouse Hotel and it was great! We know in advance that Bühsum was probably going to be a sleepy town—and we were visiting it during the off season and with horrible weather, in fact a storm. So we knew that it was probably going to be not a lot of action. We did enjoy the promenade, which was just located in front of the hotel. I could imagine pleasant afternoons there in the summer. ||||||Given the fact that the weather was horrible, it didn’t leave us much choice but to stay indoors and enjoy what the hotel had on offer. And disappointed we were not! It was a complete wellness package—you actually don’t need to leave the hotel to have a relaxing time. The wellness facilities were top notch with a small gym and quiet zones. I even took advantage of a 30 minute massage at their spa. The spa has a lot of interesting offers but were bit on the pricey side—but I think it’s worth it. The treatment was excellent. The small gym at the end of the spa was also quite adequate. But I could imagine that it gets tight when there are more than 2 people there. ||||Breakfast was amazing with excellent and varied food. Get a table with a view of the water. There was a storm brewing during breakfast but it was warm and dry and cozy in the restaurant—simply great! ||||The hotel also offers a garage to park your car and you get a ticket to drive out on your departure day. The price was ok at EUR 9 per day. ||||Not included in the price is the Kur Tax of about EUR 1,50 per person per day. Word of advice: Keep the ticket that they hand out at check in as these may be inspected when you’re taking a walk at the promenade! ||||We also had dinner at the Landgang restaurant, which was just ok. The Bar Alter Speicher is fun! It’s got dark maritime interiors completely in theme with the area. Drinks were good and service was fast. There might be 2-3 bars within walking distance from the hotel, but I would recommend staying here for a night cap. ||||Our room didn’t face the harbor unfortunately, but I recommend getting one with a terrace facing the sea. ||||All guests were German.—so I wouldn’t know how you’d get by with a foreign language. Although I’m sure the staff speaks English. ||||All in all, a great new hotel that I would...
Read moreThe Lighthouse Hotel & Spa just opened in August 2019. It does have a lot of potential to become a great hotel, but I think some kinks still need to be worked out.||||Let's start with the positives:||- The architecture is great and fits very well into the character of the town||- The hotel interior is very well designed and combines modern elements with more traditional ones||- Breakfast was good with a large selection. Maybe one slight improvement point would be the salt-level of the scrambled eggs (they were very salty)||- The location right at the beach is very nice||- Dinner in the restaurant was very good (I had an excellent steak and my wife had a good salmon)||||Things that can be improved on:||- The "harbor view" rooms are advertised a little misleading in my opinion. While it is true that you do see the harbor, this harbor is very small and there is very little to see. Definitely book a "sea view" room||- Service while not bad, was lacking in certain areas. Obviously the hotel wasn't yet fully operational (e.g. some restaurant options were not yet available, there was still minor construction on-going, etc.) and this is not a problem, but the staff could have done more to explain what is where and helped where possible to make the stay as great as possible. Again, staff was friendly, but we didn't have the feeling of being very welcome (maybe also an issue of staff learning while doing)||- The interior of the hotel is relatively dark and during a period of bad weather this might be a little "depressing"||||So, overall a hotel with a lot of potential. Lots of things already work well and hopefully the few things that can be improved will be worked out over the...

right mix of modern design, vintage look and reclaimed wood features.
friendly and prompt service. beware this is Germany. so service is in a different league as in other countries. this hotel however stands out in the positive way.
the spa is a cldecent size with several sauna to choose from and a jacuzzi as well as rest area.
the parking garage offers only 4 e-car charger. so you need to re-park when your car is fully charged. power socket to each parking spot to connect the factory delivered charging cable would be great as you usually stay over night: plenty of time to charge up.
the allow smoking onto their balcony. so it’s not really a smoke free environment. and people here exhale a lot of tobacco smoke. do not let the windows open when you leave the room for some time. otherwise your next door neighbor smoker will take care of it.
it’s a bit of a hoax: every hotel in the area charges a ‘kurtaxe’ as this is considered a fee per day to use the beach and the fresh air. on the other hand people here love to pollute the very air you pay a fee for by smoking massive amounts of...
