The NunoHotel in Cologne is a tale of two halves. Parts of it were good, parts of it were disappointing. It’s location was fantastic, and it was close to a variety of tram stops just a minutes walk away. This made NunoHotel a great place to stay if you plan on exploring Cologne.
The public areas of the hotel were nicely decorated, and the reception team were efficient in check in. We had breakfast included in our rate and it was surprisingly good. There was a wide selection of continental items, including fruits, yoghurts, pastries, breads, cereals and more. There was also some hot items as well as a freshly-made pancake machine. The coffee was great too.
The room however at NunoHotel was disappointing. It was very small, and the décor was underwhelming – it felt like student accommodation. The bathroom was very small, but the biggest let down was the shower. The shower head seemed to spray everything apart from you, and made something simple a frustrating experience.
The room was quiet with the window closed, but as soon as it was opened it was very noisy, due to the central location. There was no air conditioning, but there was a fan which wasn’t too bad. The bed was the main positive of the bedroom, and was very comfortable.
Overall, I liked parts of NunoHotel, but I also particularly disliked elements of the room. If you’re looking for a good value hotel whilst exploring Cologne, and don’t plan on using it for more than somewhere to base yourself and sleep, then NunoHotel ticks...
Read moreI’ve been travelling to Cologne for a number of years and normally stay in or just outside the Aldstadt. This time I decided to stay in a different area and chose the Nuno mainly for its price.||||The Nuno is situated directly across from the Barbarossaplatz tram stop. The SR 18 tram will take you to Cologne HBF in 9 minutes otherwise it’s about a 25-30 minute walk.||||The area is lively with lots of bars, restaurants and fast food places, stretching right up through Zulpicher Platz, Rudolfplatz and Freisenplatz.||||As for the Hotel itself, the room I had was a double but it was small. I was travelling solo so size wasn’t a problem but it would have been had I been sharing.||||There was a walkin shower which had good water pressure. ||||There was a tv in the room but there were no channels in English. Usually when I’m in Germany there is at least a CNN or BBC World but baring Rai in Italian every channel was German speaking.||||The other negative for me was that even though I stayed 3 nights, my bedsheets weren’t changed and room not tided during my stay.||||On the plus side there were no issues with noise despite being on a main road and there was a large ceiling fan which kept the room nice and cool.||||Overall ok for the money but would have liked the bedsheets changed once...
Read moreI come to Cologne for work some times a year, and normally I choose the "regular" Ibis hotel close to this one, because usually cheaper. This time prices were almost the same, so I wanted to change. ||Let's start with the good things first: kind personnel, nice, non-standard lobby, soundproofed room (even at first floor, in front of the tram stop, it was relatively silent), clean room, USB sockets. Basic breakfast but in line with price. ||The hotel has been well renovated inside rooms and lobby, but details are not much - stairs, and old style doors and door locks are an example. ||The, the main issue: in the room I had, the entrance is into the bathroom. Then you may go in the proper bedroom, separated by a glass door. I do not think this makes really sense, and it is sufficient for me to stay away next time, considering that there are better alternatives at similar or lower prices. ||The room itself is very basic and small, smaller than a regular Ibis (In my previous understanding of the strange Accor naming, the Styles brand had to be one step above Ibis, but it is not the case for this hotel - more like an Ibis Budget). ||For those of you that need a dark room to sleep, darkening is not particularly efficient, at least for the rooms facing the main road where there is a...
