This restaurant was very disappointing. For a"fine dining" venue i(read:expensive) it falls far short. It would take too long to relay the whole story of our evening , but suffice it to say that regardless of what went wrong, the Manger did not seem to even care. He didn't offer us an apology except to blame his waitress for the mistake that clearly was not her mistake. He claimed she didn't order the food properly, but when the check came it was in the form of the computer print-out which clearly indicated she ordered our meals correctly, and was not to blame. It was the kitchen's bad timing that caused the problem, We ordered the "special" dinner and after an hour we still had not received the food. When the food finally reached the table the 2 dinners were wrong and each was different from the other. We told the waitress that perhaps we had received the food of another table, and then we were informed that there was no more "specials" available. We asked for an explanation as to how they did not know that the "special" was finished sometime between our ordering and the food being delivered to the table. We asked her to find the manager so he could explain why they would just send out a random selection of food without ever having told us that our food was not available. It was at this point when the manager started to make several unbelievable explanations that we got very annoyed with him. It was not a 'language" issue because we had a German speaking person in our party. and our waitress was very good with the English language. Not once did the manger offer us even a coffee for our inconvenience. At the very least he could have done this as a good-faith gesture! I was appalled that he blamed his wait-staff and did not take the responsibility for the house and apologize. I wasn't looking to not pay for my meal (which many good restaurants would have done automatically), but I would have liked to have left there feeling like my tourist-custom was valued . I wrote to the owner and fully explained our experience and offered for her to respond. I received no response from her. And so I write to all of you in TripAdvisor Land to warn you not to spend your money here. Go to the Weinpump or the Koegler Hotel/Restaurant/Weingut instead. They are friendly towards tourists and their food and hospitality are superior. ||As others here say, it is a great view from the terrace, but its a restaurant...
Read moreBurg Crass is the oldest preserved building in Eltville and part of the structure dates from the 12th century. The hotel is surrounded by a large park and features a garden restaurant, both with splendid views of the Rhine river. The whole setup is rather charming.||||Reception was warm and friendly and we could access our room immediately even though it was only 1pm. The room was large and comfortable, while the bath room could have been slightly bigger. An odd detail was that the wardrobe did not have any hangers, but since we stayed only one night we didn't bother to ask for any.||||Breakfast is rich and very good, with eggs prepared freshly according to order. If there were fresh orange juice, it would be perfect.||||Overall, an enjoyable experience, but (as others have noted) not exactly cheap. Well, Eltville is a favorite excursion place for wealthy Frankfurters and features few hotels. It is a charming village. So the price simply reflects market realities ... Having said that I don't think we paid too much. The beautiful setting and personal service...
Read moreWe had our wedding here and its definitely not for organised people, stay away unless you are someone that likes to fingers cross and pray that everything works out attitude. There is only so much that a beautiful location and venue can do. We tried to contact anyone for so long before we could have an idea of packages, menus and drinks on the day. Trying to agree on pricing is also pointless. After so many follow up by email, prices were only sent 3 days before the event with an increase accross the board. We had uncooked ravioli on the day and food was really sad and terrible quality for the price that you are being charged. We also had only one request that staff would know how to make 3 cocktails as we knew our guess would ask for it as an open bar but staff was clueless on the day. Then when we emailed or called the venue the following week to give feedback, we had no response. Get yourself another venue with better communication and food on your special day and just head there for...
