This was one of our stops on a short Rhein tour from Frankfurt to Dusseldorf. On this leg we boarded our boat at Bingen and sailed for 2 hours upriver, disembarking 100m from our hotel at Skt Goar. The next leg involved us travelling by rail to Koblenz. The rail station is directly behind the hotel, but you don’t hear any noise from it. We arrived at around 1pm and were delighted that our room was ready. The hotel is typical European Pension style. So quite narrow with only a few rooms on each floor. Our room had a balcony overlooking the Rhein. The room was quite small but it was clean, the shower pressure was good and the water was hot. TV was smart so we could login to Netfilx. There was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room or a kettle. There is no lift. Continental breakfast was served in the pleasant ground floor restaurant from 0800 and was good. A very remarkable thing was that during our stay, until breakfast, we believed we were the only guests in the hotel at the time. At breakfast we found that there were several others. We didn’t hear anything. We can recommend this to anyone other than people for whom stairs...
Read moreBooked a room with a balcony for the final night of a hiking trip along the Rheinsteig. I crossed from Goarshausen so I could have a view of where I had hiked. Room was spotlessly clean and bed was comfy. The balcony overlooked the Rhein and St. Goarshausen with a wonderful view of Burg Katz. The breakfast served was delicious and plentiful with good options to suit most people. The coffee was good too. ||Staff at the hotel were very welcoming and friendly and switched to English flawlessly for me when my very limited German was quickly used up. They also made good local restaurant recommendations and were able to advise me on the ferry timetables etc. The Goarshausen Ferry and KD Cruise terminal are both within 60 seconds walk from the door. The main square is within seconds also, so overall the location is perfect. ||An excellent experience at a very reasonable rate. I hope to return to the area to continue the Rheinsteig and would stay here again without hesitation. I travelled solo on this occasion but would recommend the hotel for...
Read moreMy family recently enjoyed a three night stay at the Rheinhotel St. Goar. We had a balcony room overlooking the river and it was definitely worth it as we spent each evening after our toddler was asleep by drinking Riesling on the balcony watching the slow night river traffic drift past. Breakfast was of course wonderful. The hotel also keeps a small refrigerator stocked with drinks to charge to your room any time - important as the shops in Sankt Goar close VERY early.
As for location, Sankt Goar was a wonderful base for ventures up and down the river as this bank has some good ferry stops and RB lines, and this hotel in particular is right across from the K-D boat and just minutes to the train station. The way up to castle Rheinfels is steep, but if you are up for a walk I recommend heading down Bismarkweg towards the hostel and taking the foot path up. You will be surrounded by so many nettles it will feel like you're in...
